NCH HEALTHCARE SYSTEM, INC. Reviews

  • Nov 21, 2017

I was in this ER 4 times in 4 weeks with an idiotpathic virus that caused lesions on the nerves in my right thigh. The leg shrank to half the side of my left leg and I lost use of the muscle, completely. The pain was worse than any pain I've ever experienced. And it was constant.

The first visit to the ER, I didn't even see a doctor. Only a PA, who did nothing. I was asked to sign papers to allow them to treat me, not realizing they were discharge papers.

Second time, I was admitted but put in a tiny room with another person. I later learned that they assumed I was not insured, despite the proof I brought with me from the Social Security Administration stating that I was covered by Medicare but was being processed.

TDuring my third visit, A doctor threatened me! I was in so much pain, and they were doing nothing. I had no place else to turn for help. I told the doctor that I was suicidal and he threatend to lock me in a psych ward with no pain managment.

The fourth time, I went to the ER because I was ready to end my life. the pain was too much to bear and there was no end in sight. Their solution? They wanted me to go into a drug rehab facility. With this virus (diagnosed the day after I was released from the hospital, by a doctor that was not affiliated with this hospital), and with this severe pain, they wanted me to go to a drug rehab facility. I have never had any addicition to any drug of any kind. I have never done drugs for recreational purposes and don't even drink alcohol. I was stunned!

I was in the ER for 12 hours.

They admitted me for the mandatory 72 hours, and diagnosed me with back pain. BACK PAIN? I had no back pain! Why they did this, I will never know.

I was unable to walk, and had to be helped to the bathroom. I went in on Friday and the doctor did not come to see me until Monday morning. He walking early in the morning, woke me up and told me to get up and get dressed because it was time to leave.

Again, I was stunned. I told him I could not walk. Apparently, he had no idea. So he went and talked to the nurses, then sent in some people to teach me how to use crutches. They sent me home with no treatment for my leg.

The next day, I saw a doctor who put me on a high dose of steroids. Within a week, I was able to move my leg about an inch off the table, from a sitting position.

It has been 3 years since this incident, and I still have pain in that leg. I get injections, and nerve ablations about once every six months. The leg is still weaker than my other leg, and will probably always be that way because it was not treated properly at the time.

In this area, NCH hospital is jokingly called "Never Come Home" hospital. Now I know why.
