Navy federal has organized my charges, including running a charge 4 days early, to turn one overdraft fee of $20 into $100 in overdraft fees.
I had usaa run my house payment on the 6th of each month. Because spectrum had double charged me this month, i knew i was going to run into problems, so i ran up a few necessary expenses before my house payment hit, because that is what would put me over. I went online to check my account, expecting to see the house payment and overdraft pending, but what i found was that navy federal had already run the payment 4 days early, and as all those charges i ran early were overdrafted. What should have been one payment overdrafting to about $10, resulting to a total of -$30 with the overdraft, is now expected at -$170.
This has happened before about a year ago, i contacted them, and they forgave most of them as a "one-time" thing. However, this is becoming repeated, and because of my tight income, the overdrafts tend to become a cycle - the money that goes to paying overdrafts causes more overdrafts. I have also had them charge an overdraft erroneously, which in turn caused my next charge to overdraft. I've been with them for almost 20 years, and i've got my income sources set to deposit directly, which is why i'm hesitant to change banks.
They will also lock access to accounts if you are behind on credit payments, or pull money without your permission to make payments from other accounts, including family members, if your name is listed on their account, even if it just view access. They have done it to me before, in a period between retiring from the military and finding my next job, when i only had my retirement income to pay all my bills.
Navy federal credit union's overdrafts are not high - $20, as opposed to other banks charging as high as $35, but they charge them indefinitely. I have had resolution with them in the past, but because of their repeat behavior of this i wanted them listed on outscam.
While on vacation my Navy Federal Visa Signature Card was lost or stolen without my knowledge. I woke up to several text messages from NavyFed alerting me of activity that they thought was fraudulent and requesting a phone call.
I looked in my purse and realized that my card was not there and called NavyFed. The customer service rep went over the transactions that were in various bars and Ihop that took place while I was at the hotel sleeping.
I confirmed that the transactions were not mine and she told me the charges would be reversed.
A month later I received a letter stating that they are reversing the credit and stating the following:
The transactions in question occurred in a geographical area where you were present at the time of the posting dates of those transactions. Additional transactions that have posted to your checking account at the time prove you were present.
This is one of the most ridiculous statements I have seen in writing from a company and they should be embarrassed and ashamed to make such an ignorant statement.
Yes, I was obviously in the area since I was on vacation and used my check card. Where does it state that the consumer will not have fraud coverage if they are in the same area as the thief? What type of investigation did they do besides checking my check card charges. Does my signature match the receipts?
This bank is lazy and does not protect its customers. I will be headed to arbitration
I contacted NFCU, which I have been a member of for about 3yrs concerning unauthorized charges on my account. After filing a fraud claim and several days of no communication from Navy Federal. I decided to call and check the status of my dispute. I found out that my claim had been denied and i should receive a letter in the mail as to why. I spoke directly to the claims specialist who treated me as though I was a criminal on trail, after a few rude remarks from the fraud specialist and her unwillingness to give me her supervisors information I ended the call and called back to be directly connected with her supervisor who I spoke with for over an hour at this point (16 days later) there still has been no resolve in my case. So I filed a complaint with the consumer financial protection bureau and now I am waiting for a response
My son took out his first car loan with NFCU. He set up his auto pay prior to deployment. NFCU apparently never received his title (so they say) and converted his collateral loan to a signature loan with a much higher interest rate. Miraculously the title appeared several years later but by that time my son had over 2 years of late payments since his auto payments weren't sufficient to pay off in full this higher interest rate loan. They are now claiming he owes close to $900 in late fees.
How can anyone verify WHEN they receive the title ? Who knows if someone intentionally didn't "lose" the title so they could turn around and change the loan type? What consumer protections are out there ?
I'm sure my son isn't the only person this has happened to. What a horrific way for a company to take advantage of our military. I'm sure our military is an easy mark for NFCU since they are aware our soldiers get deployed overseas and unable to address their "lost title". Give me a break !!! RIP OFF ARTISTS !
