The so-called "frost free" Gardenia plant arrived with spider mites, leaves turning mottled, blackened and then all leaves dropped off. When I unpotted it, it was completely root bound. I followed all of their instructions for planting, but it died anyway. I took pictures of the dead plant as proof. Their only "solution" was to give me a discount on a new plant, which I would have to purchase. When I asked for a full refund of $127.19, the cost of the Gardenia plant itself, they refused. When I complained to the States' Attorney Generals Office, they ultimately closed the case, stating that they could not 'force' the vendor to pay. It is a DEPLORABLE business practice for a company to have a solution that means I have to pay AGAIN for the very item that was effectively "dead on arrival." Plants are LIVE and should be in pristine condition on arrival and not half dead or on a path to death. It was clear that this plant sat in a plastic pot for months on end. This should be illegal.
My troubles started when I believed the slick ads Nature Hills posts all over the Internet. I don't know WHO they're buying off at Google, but Multiple sites appear for their company Before Anyone else. I ordered a Linden tree from Nature Hills (henceforth known as NH) It arrived- broken in half. The packing was not the best, but I'll give them the benefit and say it was not their fault. I contacted the company and heard nothing. I needed the tree, so I reordered (I regret this) and figured I'd settle things with them later.
In the meantime, I took photos and sent Those. Second tree finally arrived. Now I didn't need Two trees, so I requested a refund. Was told I could only get a replacemnt. Asked to speak to a supervisor. Was not allowed access. After much discussion, I was finally offered one of their so-called "gift cards" :-l. Didn't really need them, but ordered two maples to replace the now un-needed Linden. Ordered two because ordering only One would leave a balance on the "gift card" and I sure as Heck didn't want That now. Problem is, I would need to spend Another 50 bucks to do that. Took a deep breath and crossed my fingers...
Those trees were dead on arrival, but I planted them the morning after their late afternoon arrival and hoped. Two weeks and no sign of life. Called the company (when they still took phone calls) and spoke with Barry. Was questioned and asked to do "viability testing"- pull the trees, scrape the cambium, take root pictures, etc and sent them. What the Heck? Spending a couple of pics is certainly reasonable, but Come ON! I'm a Master Gardener! Two weeks and not even a swelled bud...They're DEAD, Fred!!! Oh, Then I was told that I would only get credit for One tree because I didn't purchase any more of their "insurance". Keep in mind that this was a replacemnet for the original botched order for which I Did purchase their insurance. So I'm out over $150- nothing to show for it. No response to my emails-they've shut off the phones to customer service. I even tracked down their "CEO" and contacted Him!!! Nothing.
These guys are at Best- Incompetent. I feel 'crooked as a pig's back leg" is more accurate :-(
My only hope is that this company folds sooner than later. They spend a TON of money in their advertising and IT Depts. I fail to understand why they can't deal woth their customers with Some level of integrity.
I'm going to contact the Attorney General/Fraud Division in Nebraska...
I ordered from Nature Hills Nursery on 4 September for a tree listed in-stock. After a while and not having received an order confirmation, I contacted them to find out where my order was. According to Jennifer, they sent me an e-mail to tell me that the item was not going to be shipped until November, 2 months after purchase. When I verified the e-mail address, they did not even send it to me, but somewhere they cited as Yaoo.com, not even Yahoo.com. Also, they charged me for the product, directly, rather than doing as most online purchases are done, charging when the item is in-stock and ready for shipment.
I cancelled the order and finally received an e-mail from Jennifer on 11 October. She said that I would need to call and cancel, which I did, at which time I was advised a refund would be given in 10 - 12 days. Well, I got the refund and it was $10 less than what I paid!!!
Everything I am reading about this place would indicate that this company is not trustworthy. I would not recommend to do business there at all. A lot of people who don't pay the replacement insurance have claimed to have received dead plants. I can't even imagine how many people cancelled, like myself, only to be short-changed on the refund!!!
Based on experience, if I'm looking for a place to waste my time and money, I can count on this place to charge high prices, deliver poor quality plants, and then get a bunch of double talk from them. Reputable businesses help correct problems - that didn't happen here and my opinion couldn't be any lower of this organization.
On 6/18/16 I was delivered a Nikko Blue Hydrangea Bush that I ordered from Naturehills.com on 6/13/16. It looked pretty puny when it was delivered but since it still had one thin green stalk on it I decided to plant it to see if it would thrive and survive. On 6/22/16 I contacted Naturehills.com via email to let them know that I didn't think the plant was going to survive and could they please send me a replacement. I received a reply from Naturehills.com on 6/26/16 telling me to wait at least 6-8 weeks to see if the plant could adjust to it's new environment. I immediately responded to their email and told them the plant died and to please send me a replacement since it arrived to me looking pretty bad. They responded that since I didn't notify them within 48 hours that I would have to pay half of the selling price and shipping for a replacement plant.
Upon receiving this response on 6/27/16, I called Nature Hills Nursery and spoke to an employee who restated the same response, that I would have to pay half of selling price and shipment for a replacement plant. I ask to speak to a manager and she transferred me to his voicemail. I left my name, number and why I was calling on his voicemail. I still have not heard from him.
