Nationwide Moving Services Reviews

  • Sep 22, 2022

I am a 73 year old female and I told Mr. Markham, the agent who called me from Nationwide, that I was an old lady and I couldn't take any scams or lies. He promised me a worry free move and I gave him a deposit.

I spoke with Heidi Lynn, from Nationwide, and she told me that Mr. Markham had not given the correct date for our move and that they needed not just one, but two dates. I called Mr. Markham, as she had instructed me to and he said that I shouldn't talk to her or answer her calls, and that he was going to talk to his boss about her.

I think Heidi was just trying to do her job and Mr. Markham is only there to scam people for $ and lie about the service that Nationwide won't provide. Because I have to move, and Mr. Markham has proved how promises made by Nationwide Moving Services are all lies, I had to find another mover.

When I called Nationwide Moving Service to cancel my business with them, I received an email from Jillian Delgadillo, Customer Service at Nationwide, stating that I am cancelling my move, too late, to get a refund but if I reply to her email, I am, essentially, signing a NDA and will receive $500.00 if I don't tell the truth about my extremely negative experience with Mr. Markham, at Nationwide Moving Services.

Beware everyone!!!

We contracted with Nationwide Moving Service to move our household from Bend, Oregon to Eugene, Oregon. On March 20th, An Armenia guy and a helper with Hayk's Transportation showed with a truck at our Bend house that was too small, they didn't sticker or make an inventory of our stuff. At the end of the day they got a UHaul truck and loaded the rest of our belongings. We were not informed by Nationwide that they would contract with these guys but they had the proper paperwork - so we put our trust in them. Big mistake

We had made an arrrangement with Nationwide to have most of our household items stored in Eugene while we shopped for a house. When the time came to have a delivery, no one at Nationwide or Hayk's could/would give us an exact date of delivery. they turned up on a Sunday and on short notice, then charged us a 5% admin fee for using a credit card. Can't get a cashier's check on a Sunday.

Missing in the delivery was a 5x7 persian carpet and a set of valuable silverware that was packed in bedding and linens. Bedding and linens were in the box but the silverware box was missing. Police report filed. Wish I'd known about Ripoff.

We had a very negative experience with Nationwide Movers (U.S. DOT # 984339) during our move from Florida to Utah in July 2016.

First of all, I'm a military veteran with extensive experience with moves as a result of changing duty stations during my military career. In my 28-years of active duty, I had 16 moves, all of which were performed by professional moving and storage companies. Nationwide Movers' recent move of my personal belongings, in my opinion, ranks at the very bottom of all my moves.

1. When my wife and I booked Nationwide Movers for our move, they gave us a “Binding Estimate Cost for Services” that in our opinion and in hindsight, appeared to intentionally underestimate the size of our move. The estimate was based on a telephone interview where we went room-by-room in our house and described the complete contents of each room to the sales representative (Ron). Despite our thorough disclosure of all the contents of our house, it is our opinion Ron deliberately left items off the Binding Estimate in order to invalidate the Estimate on move-out day and force us to agree to additional charges/fees. For example, he did not include our King-size bed on the list even though we specifically informed him of this item.

On pick-up day, the driver (Itzhak or Isaac as he introduced himself) estimated our household goods shipment was 2,300 cubic feet instead of the 1,541 cubic feet calculated on the Binding Estimate. This was 759 cubic feet or 49% more than the volume calculated on the Binding Estimate. The driver filled out an amended estimate form based on his visual inspection. He listed several items in this revised estimate as justification to invalidate the Binding Estimate and charge us for more volume. However, many of these items were in fact already included in the original Binding Estimate. Even if you account for the items that Ron failed to add to the original Binding Estimate (and were not duplicative), the list of those additional items was less than 20 items that in no-way should have added up to an additional 759 cubic feet of volume on the moving truck.

2. On pick-up day, the movers significantly damaged a wall in our house. A mover backed into a wall with his shoulder while carrying a piece of furniture and left a 14-inch hole in the drywall. We immediately brought this to the attention of the driver after it happened and again at the end of the day before his departure. He didn't seem to care about the damage caused by his team’s negligence. He said he would take a picture of the damage and send it to his supervisor. He also said his supervisor would contact us, but no one has done this to date.

3. On delivery day, our shipment arrived in a moving truck belonging to American Eagle Van Lines, Inc. This wasn't the company we contracted with for this move, nor were we ever informed that our shipment would be handled by a different carrier than the one we contracted with. If Nationwide Movers was acting as a Moving Broker for this move, then they failed to disclose this to us.

4. Our overall impression of the condition of our household goods as it came off the truck was very, very negative. It was evident that little to no care had been taken by Nationwide Movers to ensure damage was kept to a minimum during transit. The driver (Miki) appeared to be more concerned with rapidly unloading the truck than he was with handling our belongings with care. An overwhelming majority of our boxes were crushed, ripped, gouged, or otherwise deformed from their original square-cornered shapes. Apparently our shipment got wet sometime after pick-up in Florida and before delivery in Utah. Several items were severely water-damaged during the 19 days in transit. The most disturbing thing is that not only were they water-damaged, but several also had layers of mold growing on them. For example, a dresser mirror/hutch had extensive water damage and was covered in mold.

We understand we could file a claim for all the damaged items through Nationwide Movers’ outsourced claims processing company. However, our entitlement for any damage claim could not exceed 60 cents per pound, per damaged item. We chose to forego filing a claim through their long and cumbersome process because, in our opinion, any possible settlement would not come close to covering the damages, or address the damage to my home, or the misrepresentations in the quoted estimate. When all was said and done, what was originally quoted as a move from Florida to Utah for $7,979.31, ended in us paying Nationwide Movers a total of $12,831.50. This represents a 60.6% increase over the quote that was used to secure the bid from Nationwide Movers.

Our lessons learned from this experience are: 1.) Never agree to or accept a Binding Estimate based on a telephone interview. 2.) Never use Nationwide Movers or recommend them to anyone again. 3.) Stick with the larger reputable moving companies like M******** Al****, etc.

Nationwide Moving Services, Hollywood, FL. has not even loaded our stuff in truck until 28 business days and 40 regular days. No response when it will be loaded, if we call multiple times they stop picking our calls. Need help, absolutely no clue, what should we do next. Already paid 70% of amount through cash and credit card. We just need our stuff ASAP. We can't even go back to pick our stuff as its stored somewhere in Georgia, as informed by them and we are in CA. But still when we went to the address given by them, there was no one in that warehouse And it was locked. When we asked neighbouring warehouses about them, they said they open occasionally not everyday.

We asked them clearly if money is the issue, and they refused. we are in complete dark what should we do, we just need our belongings as contacting other agencies like BBB and FMCSA might spoil there rating for future consumers but will not be effective immediately as they cannot force the movers to deliver our stuff. I can see the red flags as they originally quoted $ 2400 and refused to come and see the stuff. Once they came to pick up, they abruptly increased the quote to $ 3500 on silly grounds like sofa is extra large our desk is bigger, first floor should only have 10 steps and subsequently they charged for each additional step beyond 10.

At the time of booking, we asked them clearly, if they are the brokers and they confidently refused saying we have our own trucks and Nationwide is a well known name. And now it seems to be totally untrue. The lady named Jessica stopped taking our calls right after booking and initial deposit. when we were haggling with the pick up guys we made several calls and she dint pick up once and till date didnt respond to all our voicemails and emails.

I believe its all calculated scam, which these moving companies are doing with different names, phone numbers and U.S. Dot no.
