On July of 2015 I contacted National Moving Company. They seemed very eager to earn my business and stated they serve the exact route I was looking for (OR to AZ) and had a truck on the way with some room left. Seemed to good to be true. I was quoted around $4k, which seemed fair. On the moving day after loading half of my stuff I was informed that I had reached the space allocated to my things in the truck and would need to pay another $2k to have the rest of my stuff loaded. At that point it's not like I had any other option! I called several times and nothing. I spent $1500 living in a hotel without my stuff and now am sleeping with my children on inflatables in our empty rental. Kids are running out of clothes and I don't know what else to do! I have to admit that I was stupid not to listen to the many bad reviews I read online. PLEASE I BEG YOU NOT TO MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE!
Update: Quotes from Kevin the Ops Manager "At the end of the day, I go home to my things and you don't. So who has the problem? You or me." That is who these people are, unscrupulous, uncaring and mercenary. Please do yourself a favor, don't choose any company associated with them to do your move. We have more than $10k in damage to our things. They folded our brand new king size mattress like a pretzel, they left all of our things in a storage unit uncovered and unprotected. I urge everyone who has been duped by the company to contact the following: Moverescue.org Colorado/California Attorneys General Colorado/California Regulatory Agencies Federal Motor Carrier Saftey Bureau Better Business Bureau in California/Colorado Local media Colorado/California If I could give less than one star, I would. This company employs every shady low-life practice that makes us all hate moving companies. They misrepresent themselves as a completely self-contained moving company, they are not. They broker loads to "contract" trucking firms. Their sales people promise you the agreement you sign is binding, it is not. Red flag warning, if a moving company does not charge by weight or is unwilling to do an in home estimate (National Moving Systems does neither), then you are being set up. The sales people under price every shipment, only to have the driver/foreman show up at your home on move day to tell you to pay more money. Your nightmare really begins when you try to schedule delivery. Our sales person told us, no problem getting your delivery in 2 weeks time. Red flag number 2 We scheduled a delivery for July 7th, carefully explaining to the dispatchers Lupe and Jessica we live in an apartment in the middle of a major city. We explained the driver would have to use street parking and an elevator to access our home. Two days before the delivery was to occur we get an email advising us, the delivery is not going to happen. Email, no phone call, no new ETA, just sorry we can't accommodate you. After raising all kinds of ruckus, we get rescheduled for a 10 day delivery window. Thats right folks, 10 days with 24 hour notice to be ready to accept your things. Having lived without our belongings for sometime, we accepted our fate, patiently awaiting delivery of our merchandise. The final straw! Delivery day arrives, yipee...not so fast. Truck driver shows up and says, I will not unload your things unless you pay me $500 more than what you owe. That was the last and final straw with these people. I and my partner went BALLISTIC. We called the police. At which point the driver then pretended to try to unload our things. Said that he could not park his truck on the street safely and left with our belongings. Repeated attempts to reach National Moving Systems "dispatch" went unanswered, as they are only available 9AM - 6PM PST. They did not return our calls. We had to call them, at which point they began to lie. They stated we threw things at the drivers, we laid down on the street in front of the truck to prevent the driver from leaving and we called the police on them. The dispatch supervisor continued to "spin" the story to make it sound like we were the antagonist. Repeated attempts to get them to redeliver our belongings were met with the following response: "Your belongings are in storage, we will give you the key to the storage unit when you make the final payment and you are then free to go pick up you belongings." At this point I requested to speak with her supervisor, her response "I will put your complaint on my supervisor's board, be advised it will be several WEEKS before he is able to respond." That was two days ago, we have had no communication with them since that time. We have had to involve attorneys and mediators to try and retrieve our belongings. This company is unscrupulous, unethical and unresponsive. Do yourself a favor, use a reputable company for you move.
Do not hire this company! They have been flagged several times by the Better Business Bureau of Denver and are about to have a complaint against them with the Denver Attorney General. This was a very stressful moving day and continues to be very stressful.
The day the moving van arrived they wanted me to sign a blank form stating I would pay for anything over the cubic footage they estimated. I refused and they eventually saw it my way after a fight. They ended up underestimating by 200 cubic feet (I'm sure this was to get business). Then they told me I needed to pay for all the shrink wrap so that was another phone call because I was told it was included, which it was. The driver told me that I was going to owe 1,099.00 at delivery and I agreed to that amount. Then a few days later, Jessica called to inform that the driver messed up on the paper work and that I owed 1500.00.
After three weeks, I started calling Jessica asking where my stuff was and when it was going to be delivered. I left several messages for Jessica and she did not return any of my my phone calls. After a week, I called my sales rep (Frank) and he tried to help me out for a couple of days and then he stopped returning my calls. After another week of unreturned phone calls, I finally started calling Frank every hour on the hour and after the third phone call, a manager by the name of Lupe called me. She says it's coming, but it has been 35 days and I haven't received my shipment. I'll let you know when it arrives and how it arrives.
In June, I hired this company to move my household goods from Oregon to Florida. I dealt with Sean and he made me all kinds of promises. By telephone, we went through my house room by room and I told him exactly what I had to move from each room. As I had made several military moves in the past, I asked if an estimator would be coming to see what I had and he told me know that he was certain that this would be an accurate accounting. I was given a very good estimate and didn't feel the need to look further at movers. I had checked this company out thoroughly and was happy with what I had found on an internet search. Sean promised that my household goods would be in Florida for delivery by 7/21/15.
Between the day I signed the contract, and the day the movers arrived to pack my home, I pared down my household goods to even less than when Sean and I talked. The movers arrived and I was told that this was going to cost me even more than the original estimate because I had too much stuff. He then told me that he wouldn't move things that Sean promised they would in my agreement. I attempted to call the company and could get no calls back. By then, I was stuck. We were leaving town in two days and I had to get this done. Over the course of the move, I continued to make multiple calls to the company with various concerns to no avail. The packers did not label my boxes with any information - when I questionned this, he said "this is how we do this." They used my supplies, but charged me for the supplies they used. They refused to repack home stored items (christmas decor etc) even though I told the lead worker that I wanted this done. I was forced to sign the 'inventory' even though there were no descriptions in place. I had done a walk through to make sure that everything was packed and found several items that still need to be packed, they came back in and walked out with a box, but later I found that they hid the items I wanted them to pack in a closet in the upstairs of my home. By the time they were done, my estimate had more than doubled what I was promised was an accurate accounting.
The next day, I spoke with Jessica, the operations manager. She assured me that they would credit me back for all of the supplies that they used, and with timely delivery of my household goods. And told me not to worry, that she was sure all of my household goods would arrive in good condition.
Fast forward to July 20. I called to find out what was happening with my delivery, and was placed on hold and Jessica spoke to me once again. My household goods were still in Washington State in the warehouse and that delivery didn't have to happen until 18 days after my first available date. I blew a gasket. I told her this is not what I was promised and that if I had known, I certainly would have given a much earlier date of availability. She couldn't tell me when my HHG's would be shipped but that I would know 24 hours prior to delivery when my stuff would arrive.
I filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau, and from then on when I would call the company, I was told they would arrive between July 27 and August 4. Nothing else.
Today, I spoke with the only helpful individual that works for the company, and was told it was on target for delivery on 8/4/15, and she gave me the drivers phone number. I spoke with the driver, and he said he was in South Carolina and would call me back 23 hours prior to delivery. He was unable to give me an estimated date of delivery. Certainly not 8/4/15.
I will update you with further info if and when my household goods are delivered.
