Last week I contacted National Data Group regarding a mailing list of both postal addresses and email addresses for a segment of the sporting goods retailer market place. I was told there were a bit over 5200 names and made the purchase of the list.

When the list was used, over 34% bounced and after further investigation found that countless entries weren't even sports related. We normally see a 20% to 25% open rate when we responsibly send to thousands of known addresses, but with National Data Groups list the bounce rate was crazy high and the open rate was barely 3%.

Their lists are junk. Save your money and DO NOT buy from this organization. Don't be fooled by their BBB status or claims of verified or opt-in data. It is my simple opinion you WILL be wasting your money.

We are concerned to hear of your results and that you are not satisfied. National Data Group does all in its power to ensure our customers are satisfied with their purchase. It would be helpful to have a bit more information from you regarding, #1. The bounce rate and #2 your open rate.

In the very large majority of cases of bounce rates being higher than expected, we find that the customer used a sending service or platform which doesn't actually allow the use of purchased list, rather they have used a service which is designed to send to only an existing customer list. If you can let us know what service you used to send, it would be quite helpful in identifying the root of the problem.

Regarding the open rate, it sounds like you very well know what you are doing but such a difference in opens rates is simply astonishing. You had mentioned that the open rates when sending to your own known addresses was nearly 25%. This is not surprising as sending an email to someone that you know will always garner a much higher open rate than when sent to someone who has no idea who you are.
