I purchased my vehicle from a VW dealership back in 2011. The salesman told me that a powertrain warranty was included in all their vehicles and that as long as I took it to an authorized VW dealership for service and kept up all the regular maintenance of the vehicle that if anything occured after the manufacturer's warranty expired that it would be covered as long as I called the 800 number prior to having any service done on the vehicle to get an authorization. Considering the dealership was over an hour from my house and my local dealership was only 15 minutes away, considered it a great deal. Fast forward 6 years later...
Last weekend my check engine light came on. I am currently working out of state and 2500 miles from my regular service dealership. So I made an appointment with the local dealership for a diagnostic. Since Warranty Forever has limited weekend hours and I had missed their Saturday hours I decided to call them first thing on Monday.
I took the car to the dealership and they did the diagnostic on the car. The service representative actually Forever Warranty for me that morning to let them know what was going on. They told him that they needed every maintenance record for my vehicle before they would initiate a claim. So I had all those records faxed over from my dealership and then we had to fax them over to Warranty Forever. I waited at the dealership for 3 extra hours for an answer before taking my car home since it wasn't detrimental to have the service done immediately.
The service rep contacted me the next morning when he got and answer and from his explanation it seemed they denied my claim because I didn't get pre-authorization to use his dealership prior to bringing my car in. I called the 800 number and the representative told me that not only was my claim denided but they voided my Powertrain Warranty because I did not keep up the maintenance at the original VW dealership that it was purchased from. When I explained to the representative that this was not how was explained to me she became hostile and said I should have read my service agreement that it was on the first page that if I didn't use the purchasing dealer for regular maintenance that I should have called them for an authorization to use the dealership that was closer to my house since they have no way of seeing where I get my maintenance done. I then told the rep that I found it funny that they have no way of tracking when and where my car gets maintenance by yet when it is overdue for service I get a reminder email from them.
After getting off the phone with the representative I pulled out my owner manual with all the original documents and there wasn't a signed service agreement from Warranty Forever. Just two flyers stating to visit their website in the event of a service repair. Looking into their reviews over the past few years I can see that I'm not the only person that has been messed over by this company. In my opinion it's a shady business that you have to go to their webpage to even get the number to call them. There isn't a home corporate address on the webpage so there isn't even someone you can complain to or try to reason with for a resolution. If you don't follow all their requirements, you're essentially out of luck.
