My Student Advisors Reviews
I filled out an inquiry on line about my school charging too much money and could get money back/become part of a lawsuit. I was contacted very quickly by My Student Advisors. This person, Shawn Childs, was very knowledgeable about what he was contacting me about - loan forgiveness programs and not a lawsuit regarding my school.
Shawn proceded to tell me that they were there to help families with the student loan crisis in America. He claimed they work directly through the Department of Education to facilitate and service my enrollment into the federal student loan forgiveness program, consolidate all loans, and lower the payment from approximately $300/mo down to $68/mo.
Shawn then went on to tell me about the William D Ford Act, which allows the Department of Education to consolidate student loans - developed during the Obama Administration. He said his company was there to educate and assist with this program and oversee my account for the entire life of my student loans. They would service it and each year I would just have to update a form and they manage everything else.
Too good to be true is what I kept saying and he even said it himself. He sent me an email with links to verify who they are and claimed to be part of the BBB. I researched everything over the next several days. The William D Ford Act is legitament, however you can do everything on your own. The big red flags with this was when we made contact over the phone again to address questions I had about what he told me and what he sent me.
He never told me, originally that they charge to do this, their website did disclose that I can do this on my own free of charge, he asked for my login information to my student loans and was aggressive when I told him that I can access that myself - he said nobody ever had their login information and I can just reset your password. He was utterly shocked when I wouldn't give him that information and I was able to login myself to provide the information. Then all of a sudden the $68/mo turned into $0/mo and his information started changing from our original conversation - I take very good notes. He then said all he would need were some tax forms, and my bank account information. Then it was more stumbline saying if we filed joint then he wouldn't need the tax informatoin because the student loan site would have that information.
I then asked for information on the BBB because I could not find them and then he stumbled a little bit - maintaining professionalism, and said they were a sister company (DBA) and would send the information via email - I never received it and never heard from him again. I recently had another call from another company with the same story - I pretty much told him what he was planning on telling me and the call ended very quickly when he realized I knew what I was talking about based on my research and the previous encounter with someone of the same scamming scheme. BE CAREFUL AND DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!
