I purchased the muama ryoko "4g internet router" and a 5gb service plan from viaota. They don't tell you will have to pay monthly for a service plan when you buy the device. You find that out after it arrives and only has 500mb of data on the included sim card. The viaota plans range from $15 to $39 per month. I bought the device because there are places i visit that have no service for my mobile phone provider. Ryoko claims they work with at&t and that provider does have service where i need to work.
Although slow, the ryoko device sometimes works. But minutes later i get messages saying the internet connection is lost. I spent hours on chat with ryoko and viaota "support" and they were of no help. They would either parrot the instructions on the website or in the manual. I got the feeling after wasting all that time that no one on the so-called 'support' group actually knows or has even seen the ryoko device.
I will try to return the ryoko device for a refund but i'm not optimistic based on the 'service' i have received so far or have read in the genuine reviews. Most of the "reviews" i've read online seemed to have been written by ryoko employees and they all repeat the glowing hyperbole on the ryoko website. Had i done due dilligence, i have have noticed that red flag.
Hopefully you are reading this before wasting money on a ryoko device and undisclosed viaota service plan. The bottom line is that ryoko only reliably worked for me in places i didn't need it at all. My mobile phone provider's data plan Including hot spot and tethering) are less expensive, faster, and more reliable. If ryoko doesn't work everywhere there is mobile phone data service, it is a waste of time and money. Don't buy one!
Ryoko Is a 3rd world country selling portable internet items. I ordered 2 of there items a month ago and havent gotten nothing $172.00 isnt cheap at 71 and still working to get by. the seller has a sells person and she will give you any information she wants, the only information i have gotten from them is arrived at destination or hand over to airlines,or at a sorting place,not telling me where the item is.
For all you can guess is your item is still in the country its being made. lithuania . ive been trying to get information as to where my items are and nothing hich makes me thing its a rip off for anyone to buy ther items. I made my payment to them thru pay pal whichg i hope hey can refund the money i sent to ryoko and the place a phone number here in the united state but no one answers or you get there recording.
if your ucky there seller angelic or ann might give you information but not to where your item or items are. ryoko ( uab ekomlita ) pay pal has not gotten any answers from anyone at ryoko . i have also sent this information to our co-company IC3 FBI internet Fraud Department under ( FRAUD seller ).
Buyer beware - this is what they say "Ryoko has come to me ready to use with a SIM card pre-installed. So, all I have to do is just turn it on and use it! Ryoko covers more than 38 countries, so I can forget about using unsecure public Wi-Fi or paying for high international roaming charges. With Ryoko I can stop worrying about the safety of my personal data, as it protects my data with secured connection."
These are the facts: Yes it comes with a sim card. Yes they give you a one time use 500MB data card. NO, it is not ongoing. NO they do not disclose that if you want to use it you have to purchase a month to month plan. NO, they do not offer a charge as you go plan.
So in essence, you buy a portable router that will work one time with a supplied 500 MB single use data bunch. Then you have to buy into a month to month plan - or you have a worthless piece of technology that makes a great paperweight. NONE of this is disclosed up front on their ads.
Misleading - "I can connect my phone, my laptop and my wife’s tablet and phone at once, and they've all got high-speed Internet! Actually, it allows to connect up to 10 devices, which will work out a lot cheaper than paying for a mobile data plan for each of these devices. This thing is a life saver!" A clear lie! - you still have to pay for a data plan through them - but they never say it

✔ No contract - pure BS - go to www.viaota.com/plans -- NOTE the plan costs are in Euros
✔ No hidden charges - see above - this was NEVER disclosed up front in any of their ads.
✔ Top-up your data online, anytime - only if you purchase a monthly plan and pay in Euros ( with exchange rate and charges for conversion to USD)
There is NO US based address listed to return the product to - if it is only overseas returning it will be more than problematic. The SIM card may or may not work - and it is a one time use only. Their (so-called) customer support is a joke. All in all - bottom line here is to avoid this and any product sold from RYOKO like the plague
The old adage of "if it sounds to good to be true - it probably isn't" In this case it is a massive scam based on lies and misrepresentation - do NOT buy anything from RYOKO - if they lie about this they'll lie about everything they sell
Oh, and another thing they fail to disclose - they do NOT offer a full and complete refund as they claim - they also rip you off for a 15% restocking fee added to ripping you off with deceptive advertising and not disclosing that you do not get what you paid for nor what they advertised.
