I started working with this agency in April 2015, I wanted to become a new homeowner and felt this company would be a perfect match for me due to my poor credit. I spoke with Tamara Spencer who spoke to me about MPI's Customized Home Search Program, after she explained to me about the program highlights, per company's website "Once qualified for our program, you will be provided with regular home listings on the open market. Most of the home listings will be current foreclosures, short sales or pre-foreclosures that we will purchase and fully renovate for our clientele. Once renovated our client will live in the home under a rent to own/lease to own contract while they are enrolled in our Homeownership Program that includes credit restoration, financial counseling and coaching. Once completed, the client officially purchases the home from us. Our company generates its revenue through the purchase and sales of these types of homes so we are always looking for sincere individuals that are tired of throwing their dollars renting and want to experience the benefits of responsible homeownership.
Sounds pretty good... right? Wrong...
Per the company's website "There is no actual cost to our Customized Home Search Program. However, we do require a refundable deposit from clients. The reason for this deposit is two-fold. First, if we are going to commit hundreds of thousands of dollars to purchase homes on behalf of our clients, we want to make sure that we are dealing with clients that are truly serious and motivated about responsible homeownership. Second, once we purchase a home for our client, this deposit then becomes part of the down payment for that particular client.
If, after the minimum term period enrolled in MPI's Customized Home Search we have not gotten close to purchasing a home for our client, then the client reserves the right to receive their refund or continue their search for a home. However, if after the minimum term period a home isn't purchased then we really have to analyze your home search process."
Well, I gave them my refundable deposit, $1,000... And this is what I have experienced, we completed my calendar budget in May 2015, in June 2015 Tamara Spencer took me to see only one forclosed home, which I did not like. She attempted to take me to see another one, but it was covered in dog feces and we were not able to even enter the home. I continued to ask about different listings and was shot down everytime, no that home wouldn't qualify, and then I never heard from her again about going to see any home... talk about bad customer service from the homeownership counselor. It's now December 2015 and still no communication from Homeownership Counselor Tamara Spencer...
I made a formal complaint to the owner Steven Onyeberechi in November 2015 about Tamara Spencer, we had a meeting and it was stated that he would take over the role of Mrs. Spencer, of course I inquired about my $1,000 and it was stated for me to work with their own personal realtor and my $1,000 will follow me... Okay, follow me where, how will it be applied to where I'm going, if I'm going somewhere. I recently sent an email to the owner asking for a refund. We'll see how this goes...
