On 3/7/2018 I contacted Mountain View Pest Control company because I had noticed "droppings" coming from the exhaust fan in my master bathroom (I thought it might be mice). Two men came out that same day, one immediately went to my roof and the other came into my house -- they proceeded to speak with each other via telephone.
I was told I had a hive of Africanized "killer bees" in my bathroom exhaust fan vent and that "time was of the essence" to get them killed. I asked that they be removed instead, but was told they had to be killed.
The man in my home told me the price would be $495.00 for the main vent and if I wanted the other vents treated (which he strongly advised) it would be an additional $100.00, totalling $595.00. I was horrified at the price, but was intimated and scared so I signed the "Bee Removal Service Invoice" given to me; I was then asked to make the check out to Joseph McDermott -- not Mountain View Pest Control. Immediately after I gave the man (presumed to be Joseph McDermitt) the check, the man on the roof came down and they both left. There was a totla of from 5-8 minutes spent at my home.
As they drove away I became suspicious and immedicately attempted to contact my bank (Chase) Fraud Department. I was transferred and put on hold and by the time I finally spoke with a representatiive (maybe 15 minutes after the pest control people had left) I was told it was "too late, the check had already been cashed.
I then called another company, "The Bee Man" to come verify that (1) I actually had bees; and (2) that they had been treated. The representative from The Bee Man spent about 30-40 minutes on my roof, came down, and told me there were no bees (dead or alive) and no signs of a hive ever being there -- no sign of bees! He wrote a report and took photos which I have.
I then called the Department of Agriculture and spoke with Kevin Drake, Compliance Inspector, who came out the next day and took my statement, checked out the droppings in the bathroom and went up on my roof. When Mr. Drake came back down he told me that there were NEVER any bees in my vent or on my roof, but that I had wood termites. His report (and photos) will be ready in a wekk or so and available to me.
Something needs to be done about these men, Joseph McDermott, Kendall Torrejos, and Gary McDermott. They are starting up pest control companies all over the Valley and, specifically, taking advantage of elderly people, myself included (no way I could get up on the roof to verify anything). There are AT LEAST three companies they are involved in (1) Mountain View Pest Control, LLC; (2) Valley Pro Pest Control, LLC; and (3) Buzz Kill --- these companies involve Mr. McDermott, his wife, and his son.
Negative complaints are all over the Internet. including one with "3 on Your Side" that was ignored. The BBB has numerous negative complaints.
Again, something needs to be doen to stop these peope or, at the very least let others know not to use them as they are professional scammers.
P.S. I did try contacting Joseph McDermott to discuss the situation and told him I would pay him "if" he did put any chemicals in the vent and for his time. He called me a "crazy cat lady" (I have two cats -- he only saw one) and hung up on me. NO INTEGRITY OR PROFESSIONALISM AT ALL
