When I first moved into my apartment, I was excited. The building itself is full of amenities.
Unfortunately, my time living in my apartment has been torture. First of all, I went an entire week in the winter without heat because of a busted pipe. Then I had to go two weeks in the summer without air. But my major issue has been an ongoing issue with my next door neighbor who plays his music so loud that you can hear it down the hall.
I have made over 30 complaints to my building manager and the concierges about the noise issue to no avail. When the concierge contacts him, he lowers his music only to turn around the next day and play it loudly again. I go through this first thing in the morning and as soon as he comes home in the evening. My building manager has not been supportive and has made comments like "he's just a guy who wants to come home after work and enjoy his music" and "well, the concierge says that his music isn't THAT loud".
My lease contains a noise clause and I am at the end of my rope. This morning, I ended up calling the police after being awakened at 6am by my neighbors music. Unfortunately, by the time the officer arrived, my neighbor had already left to go to work. I am a full time doctoral student and well-respected college professor.
I am very disappointed in the way that I'm being treated by the building manager. I have never in my life been treated with such disregard. There is no way a tenant should call 30+ times complaining about noise with no formal actions being taken other than verbal warnings. When the concierges are not available, I have knocked on my neighbor's door or knocked on my wall to ask my neighbor to lower his music.
My building manager is now accusing me of disturbing my neighbor's peace because I knocked on his door or my wall to ask him to lower his music. This makes absolutely NO SENSE and I honestly cannot believe that I have to go tit for tat with a building manager over my rights as a tenant. Today, the building manager and I had an exchange of words and I refuse to communicate with her any further. I have contacted my attorney because I feel as though that's the only way this issue will be resolved.
My contract is being breached on a daily basis. I only ask for what is rightfully mine- a peaceful living environment.
This situation has caused me a great deal of anxiety and sleep deprivation. I find myself constantly looking over my shoulders in fear of retaliation from the building manager and/or my neighbor. Additionally, I am behind on my dissertation because of the frequent noise disruptions and I received a notice last week that they will need access to my apartment for 3 weeks to drill holes in my wall. My experience here has caused (is causing) me a great deal of distress. I have also recently received a letter from their attorney where he referred to my complaints as "frivolous". Absolutely unbelievable!!
