Easy enough, if you've found this report it's because you are considering hiring or have been scammed by Derek McHone, owner of Moose Electric out of Rockton IL and Clinton Wisconsin.
I was taken by Derek in the worst way. We agreed on a price for the work I wanted completed. I went ahead and paid him in full for the job. Not only did he NOT finish the job, but there were numerous times he never showed up when he said he would. There are countless negative reviews on the internet about this very same problem he has with showing up to do a job.
After two months of waiting and being very patient with him about his no-shows, no calls, or communication, I finally had had enough of his shenanigans. The work was incomplete, my house was torn apart, and come to find out, was substandard. He installed a closet light for me that kept falling down, the can lights installed in my kitchen are a fire hazard because they were never capped off and wires were just falling out when they were looked at by another electrician.
The can lights he installed in my kitchen were put too close to the cabinets, and even after questioning this, he still didn't remedy the issue. So, they were placed wrong AND were a fire hazard! Nice!
I have holes in my ceiling that were not patched up, I have can lights hanging down by their wires, and the work I paid for is not completed. Shoddy workmanship, poor etchics, and me being tired of waiting around for him to show up time and time again led me to dispute the charge I made to him for the payment in full. I was nice enough to only dispute half of the charge, since he did install some of the lights as promised, and I would say half of the work was completed. Instead of letting it go, he fought back and unfortunately my credit card company reversed the charge in his favor.
The man is a snake with no morals. He also didn't pay his worker for over two months and has yet to pay him. He hired my son when I had him over the first time through a groupon deal, as he needed an assistant to help him and my son, being in the army reserves, needed work at the time. He kept promising to pay him and never came through. I had taken the half that I had received form the inital dispute and gave it to my son to pay for his lack of paying my son for the work he did for him. So, I not only lost the initial "paid in full" money I paid Derek, but I also lost the amount of money I paid my son for his irresponsibility and lack of ethical business morals.
I would think twice about hiring Moose Electric or Derek McHone for any work you want done. Unless you want substandard work, fire hazards, and like waiting around for him to (not) show up or even give the courtesy of a phone call (or return call.) I have photos of the horrible workmanship and the condition in which he left my house if anyone would like to see them, or you can see them on Angie's List since I left a review for him with the photos attached.
I would say if you hate your money, hire Moose Electric. But, if you value integrity, a business with ethics, and a job well done by someone with the skill and knowledge to do a competent job with something as important as electrical work, then I would suggest you are better off going somewhere else.
