We placed a 60 day employment ad on Monster on 5/26/15. As of 6/5/15 we had not received any resumes for the job which was unusual as before we had received a lot of resumes when we placed an ad for that position. I called Monster and left a message for someone to call me back, I also emailed the last known account manager I had as well. I never heard anything back and on 6/11 we still haven't received any resumes or responses from Monster. I tried again and finally was able to get in touch with someone at Monster, it wasn't our account manager but it was someone at least. I told her that we placed the ad on 5/26 and it was 6/11 and we hadn't received any resumes for our position. She gave me the name and email of our account manager and said she would have him call me.
On 6/12 we started getting resumes (we believe it was only because we had been complaining and they just decided to start sending resumes to placate us). Our ad was specific, you must have 10+ years of MasterCam experience, 10 years machine shop experience, be able to run compression, injection and transfer molds- things like that. Working in a machine shop on the big machines can be dangerous unless you know what you are doing which is why we were specific with the 10 years experience plus we didn't want someone that we had to babysit and train on everything. Plus we specified we were in So California and wanted only resumes from commuting distances.
The resumes we were getting were from India???, Pennsylvania, Flordia, Northern California and some from So California but it was like no one read the ad. There was not one person that had the experience we asked for. We had a roofer, a bar back, door man, lots of job jumpers (moving from job to job every few months). It was just a joke at the resumes we were suddenly getting which gave us the impression that Monster suddenly started sending us resumes from their database. When we did find one or two that fit we would make an interview appointment with them, then they would call and cancel before the interview.
Something just wasn't right, suddenly we start getting resumes after several calls to Monster letting them know we weren't getting resumes, then we get resumes from people that have no idea what MasterCam or a machine shop is, then we get a couple good resumes and the guys call and cancel their interviews. It was just all too strange so we decided to cancel the ad even before the first 30 days was up.
I called to tell them I was cancelling the ad and they said I couldn't and we still had to pay the full amount. Needless to say, we felt that they had duped us with the quality of resumes we were getting. So the ad was still running and we were still getting resumes that have nothing to do with a machine shop plus a resume from Russia.
We found a few websites about the scams that Monster pulls on people. It is such a ripoff, they get paid for the ads and don't care of the jobs are filled, as people just keep renewing and Monster keeps raking in the money. If they send out the good resumes for the jobs, then the ad would go away, so they can't do that because they don't want you to fill the position. Check it out for yourself, you can google Monster scams and read all that comes up.
So place your ad on Monster only if you want to waste your time and money.
