Agreed to a two-year contract with this company given that they would provide two cameras for my home at a cost of $58per month. Since the beginning the cameras were not effective and not what I was expecting. Alarm didn't work half of the time and no one called when alarm did go off.
I cancelled my service a month after my 2 year contract was up. Was charged for a half month payment without being told about it. They will not refund, said there's nothing they can do and that is just the way it is. Very unprofessional, even the management. Call center is crap. People that work there should feel guilty for scamming people out of money.
When we first moved to a new state, new city, a door-to-door salesman came to our house and told me how bad our neighborhood is. That house over there was robbed and this house over here was broken into, etc., etc. With 3 small children at home, I was so scared (even though we came from Los Angeles to small town Tennessee, you'd think I'd know better...) we signed up for the alarm system. AFter a few months, I met the neighbors and found out that the stories were untrue and the area is very safe. So we wanted to cancel the $55/month alarm system. Well, it turns out there's no way to quit. so for the last 4 years, we've been paying $55/month for alarm system we don't even ever use. At first they told me taht within 6 months of the contract end date, we can get out for a discounted price, but that apparently was a lie also.
When I called and told them that I don't use the system, they became very condescending and told me that their system is so simple to use, even I should be able to learn how to use it!
Now we've sold our house and we're moving, but they still won't let me quit early. We have 6 more months worth of payments we have to make even though we won't even be living in the house.
Long story short, DON'T DO IT!!!! Before you sign up for a security system, make sure you're not lock into something for too long.
I called and canceled my account about 45 days out. I was told I needed to send a written cancelation.
I was a customer for over 5 years. I completed the process as required. They told me they didnt receive my written cancelation in the appropriate timeframe. This is a lie. I called in and sent written request. When they told me they didnt receive a written request to cancel, I sent a second written request. But I was told I had to pay $61.61 for another month of billing with a late fee.
Their customer service did nothing to help this issue. They could see I called 45 days out and I feel they were just trying to get another month of payment. I just went ahead and paid this last request because my credit is not worth them ruining. I don't not pay my bills. I completed the process as requested and feel they should not have received this additional money. I tried explaining this to their "rude" customer service who was clearly only out to recieve their extra payment. After all of these years and not one issue of a late payment you would think they would have looked at the totallity of the situation. The funny thing is I was just moving and was going to sign back up in a few months. They tried everything to get me to stay but when I told them I would reach back out when I resettled in my new place, they obviously did not like this response.
That is perfectly fine because they will never get my service again. I refuse to feel like I am being extorted for an additional payment. The issue was with the principle behind what took place. I could care less about the $61.61 and feel like this cost was paid to get them out of my life.
Monitronics, there is no need to try and refute what took place with a hollow response that you all care. You obviously don't and companies like yours will be exposed for your unfair billing practices.
Please take this and the other billing complaints on the internet into account if you feel you want to use this company for your alarm monitoring. Practices that people discuss on the internet are documented and use them at your own risk. Just realize that you will probably face similiar issues if you use them when you go to cancel. It's not worth the headache and I suggest using an honest monitoring company.
Our contract expired last June after paying for three years, with no missed payments. We told them we did NOT wish to renew. They have called more times than I can count to tell us we owe them money. We have moved out of the house where we had that security and it's been 7 months now since we discontinued service. They call at all hours - clearly against the law - and have called our neighbors and friends. This is harassment for no reason. These people need to review their business practices. I'll be posting this on EVERY Facebook page I belong to and might join some pages just to post this as well.
In 2004, I signed a contract with ADT to have a security system installed in our home. This contract was due to expire in 2007. In 2008, my husband called American to have them service the system because it came on and we couldn't turn it off. The police came out during that time. My husband signed an agreement with American during this time When he passed away in 2014 and I decided to move to the East Coast.
When I contacted American Alarm to disconnect the service, it was not American but Monitronics who answered. I told them that I wasn't sure how they became the carrier of our service, but I wanted to disconnect it. They refused to disconnect the serevice and told me to check with my neighbors to see if any of them would be interested in assuming our contract. I told them that I didn't have a contract with them. They claimed that my husband and I signed an agreement with them in 2008 for six years.
I asked them to send me a copy of the agreement. The copy they sent contained both my husband's signature as it had been signed on the original, and my signature along with social security number which were added and written by someone else. Also there was no "Accepted by Company" signature on the original, but the copy was signed and dated. When I mentioned all of this to the Monitronic's rep when he called, he became very irrate with me and told me that they didn't care what the contract I had said, I will be paying for this service.
They call all throughout the day and night harassing me about this service. The last statement the rep said to me was that "I will make you pay and make it so that you will never be able to get service from anyone else. You don't know who you are fooling with." If someone knows how I can remedy this, I am open to listening. This problem is beginning to cause me health issues and I want it stopped.
My friend and I decided to engage this dealer to provide home security system for our new house. This is mainly due to Monitronics reputation and service. On Aug29, 2014 we signed up agreeing to the package he presented. He agreed to provide 1x new keypad, 2x motion detector,1x glass break, 1x cell back up, 2x smoke detector plus the mobile app for $1150 for 3 years service. We agreed to sign up for this and paid him upfront. The installation was done on 18Sep despite he promise to have it on our closing day which is 17Sep. After installation there lot of false alarms we are getting. This is due to wrong zone assignments. Also, some of the hardware promised was not provided (1x smoke, 1x motion detector, 1x keypad) and the mobile app was not provided as well.
The reason he mentioned is that he was supposed to change our system completely as we have pre-installed wireless sensors hat won't work with what initially planned to have installed for us. As for the hardware that is not installed he said that there are no more zone available to have them installed. There is also no mobile app for the same reason that he was not able to change out our system. On Oct 6 came to fix a problem he promised that he will replace the system so that he can finish his work completely using new system and put the smoke and the motion and provide the mobile app. He said that what we have is only temporary.
Again on7oct he needs to comeback as we cannot arm our system. On that day he fixed the problem and he was trying to hand over the balance hardware but I refused. I told him that he should hold on the hardware and finish his work. He said he will comeback on17Oct to get the system replaced. After that he is a runaway dealer. He won't answer calls, he won't respond to SMS and emails. This type of dealers should it be on the business. I also tried to get help from Monitronics by calling them nervous times but they said can't help me as Rehan is their client and they cannot force him to respond to me. I told them,"this guy is selling himself as authorized dealer and by that you should be able to revoke the authorization". Till date no action by Monitronics. I hope more people will read this and be aware of this kind of people.
I have tried to cancel this service for several years because of frequent false alarms. Many of these were my fault, but it is too easy to mess up this system, and difficult to work with. I got big run-around. I hope I have finally gotten rid of them.
