I was incarcerated in county jail from 12/27/2021 to 03/07/2022 during which time I bacame aware that my unemployment debit card had been stolen and used by an unknown individual. As such I requested and was allowed by jail staff to utilize the regular phone sytem to call and file a charge back dispute.
After filing the dispute I was told I would recieve a provisional load in the amount of $433.00 due to the fact that I was incarcerated, did not authorize the use of my card and all charges were made in the month of January 2022. I opted to have the forms faxed to the jail in order to recieve the provisional load but after multiple failed attempts I never recieved the forms and ultimately through no fault of my own my claim was denied.
After being released I recieved a letter stating the claim had been closed and was final with no option to appeal. I called customer service for an explanation and was told if I had new or additional information or proof to fax in I could get my case reconsidered. So I contacted jail deputys and was provided a "Letter of Incarceration" verifying the dates I was in jail and signed by a sheriffs deputy with contact information.
After faxing the document I called customer service again to check on the status of my dispute and was put in contact with a supervisor named "Dale" who told me my request for consideration was denied and that to appeal it i would need to again send in new information or proof of my claim which I had already done and that there was no way to contact the department who investigates claims. This is asinine!
I'm entitled to the unemployment benefits I earned while working and particularly ones stolen off my card which were loaded prior to my incarceration unbeknownst to me. Where is the oversight or any meaningful way of receiving an explanation of a denial when you cant contact or talk to the department responsible for making theses decisions?
Had they sent the forms via fax as they said they would I would have been able to return them via fax within the 72 hour time freame and received my provisional load but they failed to even do that which extended the time of the investigation that was ultimately denied based on what? I follwed all procedures to a T! They failed from the get go and here I am out $433.00 with absolutley no explanation whatsoever.....I call B.S.!
