In November 2016, a few days after my father's sudden death, Farm Bureau of Mississippi cancelled my parents' auto insurance policy, which they had for 48 years, since 1968. So, in the midst of her grief over the death of her husband of 66 years, and the major headache of making funeral arrangements, etc., she had to deal with the stress of having no car insurance.
Calls to the local agency yielded only one response: "cancellation due to change of circumstances". Letters to the central office and its President, Mike McCormick, elicited no response whatsoever.
When I pressed them for an answer, they told me to "make an appointment to come in and talk to an agent". I told them that I better not come in person because, if I did, I might wind up visiting my wrath on their persons.
I can only believe that, having collected tens of thousands of dollars in premiums over the years, they decided to cut their losses and leave my mother high and dry.
Utterly despicable behavior.
We have since arranged better coverage at a lower price from another company, Shelter, and I have cancelled all my policies with them. (And to add insult to injury, they continue to send me a bill for 50 cents! for the cancelled policies.)
