Seller advertised car on ebay. After some initial problems with him trying to sell to higher bid after we had deal we agreed on price. Miro appears very well spoken and sincere and provided many photos. Took small deposit, $1,000 on $42K car. Went back and forth on whether to wire money or drive in person from Philadelphia to Jacksonville Fl. over 900 miles.
Fortunately, even though middle of pandemic, I chose to drive there with cash to consumate transaction. Even though he was very reassuring, I am very old school and there was enough money involved that I wanted to do this in person. It's a good thing I did. When I arrived after a day and a half on the road he claimed the trailing arm had broken the night before so car could not be driven. If he told me the night before he knew I would have turned around. He then offered car at reduced price and/or he would try to fix while I took a hotel room. Seriously, did he expect to wait how many days? Car also had visible issues such as rust and much deferred maintanence. That said, if car had been driveable and sound I would have been happy and paid.
Since he couldn't pull big con he kept deposit which was small but obviously not entitled to. After I asked for return of security he became very belligerent and left threatening voice mails. I got off lucky and only lost 3 days, $1,000 for car rental and hotel etc., and his low rent security deposit scam. Wish I had done more reseach and found this website befor I got invoved with this con man.
