Miller's Watch Repair & Restoration Reviews

  • Dec 9, 2015

In late July, after having a discussion about how he does business, I sent a vintage watch that I had purchased to John Miller for repair. He assured me he could repair it and it would be about 2 weeks to repair the watch. After sending it I first had to prod him to let me know he'd received it and he told me he'd get to it shortly.

At first communication was OK. He responded (all of our communication is saved in a chat log in Facebook) in a moderately timely manner but he also made it clear he was having a computer issue and his wife was going through a health issue. I perfectly understood and allowed him additional time. Then he went quiet for weeks. Finally he told me it was done and going it. Then he went silent again for several weeks and would not respond. When he did respond he was indignant that I'd want my watch back "so quickly" and he needed more time (I thought it was already done).

Weeks later again I had to get on him and finally start calling his number he'd supplied. He was angry that I had called him and told me it was going to go out the next day and that he'd get back to me with tracking info. The next day he did get back to me late in the day but he told me he'd been scatterbrained and left the receipt with the tracking number at the post office. Almost 2 weeks went by and there was still no watch. Finally he told me that, according to him, the label had been damaged and the post office returned it to him and it would go back out. If only...

Again he went silent only to tell me he'd found a problem with it and had to do additional work (so either he lied about sending it and it being returned or he was just incompetent and was sending me a broken watch). He threatened me that if I was going to call him them he could send it back to me unrepaired and charge me a bench fee for his time. I told him that it would be useless to me without being repaired and to take care of it. He told me to leave him alone and let him do his job.

So I gave him more time. I even sent him another watch that had been given to me for free since it had parts he could use to repair the movement. He actually started communicating again and finally, on November 16th, he told me that it looked like it was fixed and would ship the next day. That was the last I heard from him again. All messages sent have been unreturned and, worst of all, I paid him up front for this.

So, to summarize, he received my watch on August 6th for a 2 week repair and as of today, December 8th, I still have no watch and no communication.
