Beware of this Hospital Sick Practices: Mercy Hospital Emergency Room in Miami, Florida is scamming unsuspecting people!
About a year before I was finally declared physically disabled by a Federal Judge I was told by a friend, now diseased, that his nephew went to the Mercy Hospital in Miami, Florida and was declared disabled after seeing a doctor there, and that it didn’t cost him any money to do just that. After he insisted so many times that I should go there since I was in pain and with a lot of difficulty walking or even standing up, with 4 herniated disks, a bad knee, and several other physical problems, couldn’t work, had no money at all and was close to being evicted from my efficiency, I finally went to this hospital looking for a doctor, out of desperation.
After I arrived at the main entrance of this hospital I asked the person in the front desk if they could provide me a name of a doctor who could help disable me. The person sitting at the desk told me that I needed to go to their emergency room to get the name I was looking for. After I arrived at ER I explained that my situation was not an emergency, that I just needed a name of a doctor who could disable me, but was told that an ER doctor would have to see me first and told me to sign some papers so that the doctor could see me.
I explained to the guy there that I if there was any money to be paid for this I didn’t have any with me, neither in my bank and that I didn’t have a job or any source of income. He told me smiling that it was OK, no problem (Note: when I arrived to the Mercy Hospital Emergency Room it seemed totally empty since I didn’t see anybody else besides myself and maybe they thought that if I couldn’t pay at that time I was their only patient at that time anyway and they could try to squeeze the money out of me latter on using debt collection companies to get “their” money for which these companies get a percentage of the money recovered, so they had nothing to lose). So I fell for this hospital scam and signed some papers for which now they are have been hounding me using one collection company after the other, in the name of Emergency Physicians, to collect close to $800 for just providing me a doctor’s name which I couldn’t even see because he charged $280 upfront just to see me.
Before they gave me that name, apparently worth $800 to them, an emergency room nurse took my blood pressure and a woman doctor came right away smiling and asked me a couple of questions and that was it! The whole process took around there minutes tops and are they charging me $800 just for giving the name of a doctor that is or was affiliated with Mercy Hospital, period – this is the biggest scam I have encountered myself in a long time – and they call this hospital Mercy Hospital???
My mother even got into a coma in their emergency room some years before when they pulled out the breathing tubes out of her nose apparently way too fast and due of the very strong impression thjis caused on her (maybe the tubes got bonded someplace inside of her respiratory track and was difficult to get it unstuck but kept pulling them on anyway) and she fell into a deep coma arising from this highly traumatic even, but I can’t prove it, I only have a logical analysis of the situation and the doctors and nurses involved, if I am correct in my assumption, will never say a word of this, I am sure because they and the hospital could be liable for malpractice. My poor mother died a year later suffering in her vegetative coma in a nursing home with her back full of scars and unable to communicate with anyone how she felt or what had happened at the ER of Mercy Hospital.
Where is the mercy from this “Mercy” Hospital when they are trying to squeeze (steal) that kind of money just for a name that I could have found in the Internet or the Yellow Pages for free? They forced me to see this emergency doctor before they could reveal the name of the doctor in order to be able to charge me close to $800 which is a total and complete scam. If I had known this I would have never gone there in the first place.
Two days ago I was called again (after and incredible number of calls from different collection companies for this issue) and the woman that called told me that they will take legal action against me – because they haven’t been paid $800 for giving me the name of a doctor that I couldn’t even see? I have even told these collection companies several dozen times that besides the hospital forcing me to see a doctor at the emergency room just for the name of a doctor was a scam perpetrated by this hospital, I don’t even have the money that they are asking for and the little money that I get from my disability every month is not even enough to cover my most basic needs so I couldn’t pay them from that either.
Two of the collection companies that were contracted before by Emergency Physicians, even told me, after I explained everything this to them, that they would stop calling me if I filed a report with the police department explaining the whole situation. I went to police to make the report but they told me that they couldn’t do it, apparently because the hospital have not scammed me technically because they haven’t taken any money from me, they only have intended to do so, so there is no crime as of yet. However their harassment continues on and on whiles this hospital calls itself “Merciful” (Mercy Hospital).
