Marie advertises strictly on Facebook as a hauler who hauls very inexpensively; for gas only, to help those who rescue horses. She is on several rescue and horse transport pages, as well as having her own business page.
I asked her for a trip for my mare from South Arkansas to the foster family in Central Texas. I told her the date I needed. She stated she could do it. I then asked her how I pay, as I live in California and would be covering this, not the family receiving the horse. She stated I had to send her a Moneygram. I requested to use Paypal instead, however she told me it was frozen due to a dispute with another ranch. Like a fool, I fell for it. I sent her the money that day.
I waited 10 days past the date she was to pick up. She was hard to track down and communicate with. I always received vague responses that did not pertain to the matter at hand. She stated she would cover the daily boarding fees at the quarantine facility my mare was at, until she could arrive. Sounds more than fair to me, so I waited. And waited.
I finally started getting firmer. She stated the horse would be there by Christmas, as she had a few others in Oklahoma that needed delivery by then as well.
I asked her again, that morning, 12/23, what the update was. As usual, she did not reply to several phone calls, texts or PM's on Facebook. When she finally replied, she told me she was on route to pick up horses in Oklahoma, and then would go get mine. She couldn't give me exact times, as she was working her way thru Oklahoma and had to see. After so many lies and ridiculous stories, I was starting to doubt her. I started checking her out and found so many horror stories, that I didn't want her to haul my horse even if she ever showed up!
On the morning of 12/24, I found the other party that she was to haul for; the horses in Oklahoma that needed a ride to be delivered in time for Christmas. They stated she had told them she was still at home, in Colorado. That she was not, in fact, on the road and working her way thru Oklahoma, as she had told me.
I then bombarded her with calls/texts/PM's. She was not replying to any. After several hours, I finally told her I know the truth and please refund my money as I need the horse hauled ASAP. She finally responded (always via FB's private messaging) and stated she would refund my money AND pay the board fees...on Tuesday, 12/29. I demanded a refund of my original payment only TODAY. She then began getting irate and belligerent. I told her I would not let this go and threatened her with legal action, which only made her angrier and more obscene.
I will redact IF she refunds my money. However, after seeing the many, many similar stories where people are waiting years later, I seriously doubt I will ever receive that refund. If so, by all means, I will gladly redact, as would only be fair.
I have found out the hard way, you get what you pay for. She needs to be licensed with the Department of Transportation (she has made claims before that she IS, however, there is no current info for her on their site). You need to ALWAYS pay via Paypal, using Goods and Services; NOT Friends and Family...so that you have some recourse. Always sign an actual contract. Take out your own insurance as well.
The stories of no shows, injuries, driving around with the horse for days, dehydration, stolen trailers...those are all someone elses story to tell. I am trying to convince them to take the time to tell them. I do not want anyone else falling for her scam. PLEASE, do not waste your time or lose your money!
