My wife and I hired Meija Brothers to perform spring maintenance on our property (e.g., trimming, edging, weeding, limited mulching, seeding). We agreed to pay the business $2,850 for services rendered. Pedro (the owner) sent a crew of two men to do all of the work on our 3-acre property. They started on April 12, 2021 but after a week had not finished. Pedro demanded payment of $2,000 in cash. My wife and I felt uncomfortable with his request not the least because it was received at the last minute on a Friday afternoon. Additionally, the crew had severely damaged a portion of our lawn with their equipment and left debris and stains on our driveway. We paid the foreman a little more than half of the contracted amount and were told that the crew would finish the work the following week.
The crew came back the next week and finished some but not all of the remaining work, and some of what was done was not performed as we requested or to our satisfaction. For instance, the crew was to place a layer of river rock in a bed along one side of our house. I told the foreman that the crew needed to make sure that the rock would be flush with the ground. Instead they simply deposited the rock without removing any of the existing soil so that we were left with a pile of rock leaning against our home. Moreover, the crew buried our gas meter with the rock, which I do not believe will be acceptable to our utility company. The crew also did not stake several trees, replace rotting wood fence rails, or repair and clean up our property as contracted/requested.
On Wednesday April 21, we paid Pedro the balance of the contracted amount and were told that his crew would return on the following Saturday to finish the work. We waited at home all day, but the crew never showed. In subsequent communications, Pedro indicated he had purchased the fence rails and that his crew would return on May 1 to complete the work. Again, we waited at home the entire day for the crew, and they never showed. In the course of subsequent communications, Pedro indicated his crew would finish the work on May 8. We spent the entire day waiting for them, and they did not come. At this time, Pedro is no longer responding to our requests for information.
Meija Brothers was untruthful in its communications with us, did not finish all of the agreed-upon work, and damaged our property without fixing it. I would advocate in the strongest terms that consumers look to other suppliers for their landscaping and tree pruning needs.
