I'm posting this report on behalf of my sister. She's had a very painful year since June 2016.
My sister was in Meriter hospital a year ago last June. She had been having complications from a medication she was given and checked into Meriter until things smoothed out.
She said that all but three of the nurses staff were very nice, the other three that would come on duty would just sit there and stare at their computers as you walked by. Three nurses that obviosly shouldn't have been there.
On the night in question my sister was about twenty feet from the nurses station in a TV room when suddenly she felt like something was wrong... she had no idea what at the time. There was no way to communicate with the nurses station from where she was and she was alone. For some odd reason, the nurses had her in red slip and fall socks.
She had no idea why...
She thought that maybe it would be best if she headed back to her room, as she made it as far as the nurses station she suddenly started to faint. She started yelling for help right away and sat down in a chair four feet from the nurses station. She kept yelling but no one came, she could no longer hold herself up in the chair and started screaming for help. Shewas about to fall and tooka deep breath, she caught herself and stood up which was better than hitting the floor.
Finally, a nurse that had been nice to her arrived and tried to brace her from her left side and all of the sudden all of my sisters weight shifted to the right as she blacked out and someone pushed a wheelchair under her.
They gradually got her back into her room but both her bowls had let loose and she was throwing up. They cleaned her up in the bathroom and had to wheel her back to her bed. She could no longer walk. She was in severe pain.
Later that evening a doctor came in and looked at her foot that was more bruised than the other. She was hurt but no one knew how badly as of yet.
Little did she know what had happened to her. A few days later she left the hospital with crutches. She was in a lot of pain all over her body. He feet were swollen.
As time passed she kept feeling worse so eventually she went to a chiropractor. She felt a little better after three treatments, but it was expensive since she had to drive from Lacrosse area back to Madison at this point. Getting well can be expensive.
At that point she had no more money paying cash so she tried physical therapy at Mayo Clinic, after nearly two months, it din't help her much and her insurance would no longer pay for it.
She picked up the phone and was able to reach a woman named Christine who was the go between for hurt patients and their insurance company. She was kind and took all of my sisters information.
After several months and many conversations the woman was told to offer her 300 dollars. That wasn't evenough to even reemberse my sister for what she had already paid in gas and for her new chiropractor and she told Christine.
My sister had been on lidocane patches for many months with little relief.
More time passed and eventually Christine told her that she would have to see one of their doctors at Meriter. My sister had no problem with that but it Never happened.
Now a year had passed and nothing. My sister picked up the phone and asked Christine if she should just take the 300 dollars. Christine said No. She told my sister that she was going to ask her attorney whey my sister had not been contacted? Christine said that they would give my siter between 1000 and 1500 dolars and to just hang on.
About two months ago my siter was resting in a recliner and out of nowhere she felt the right side of her lower back slide don a few inches and suddenly the left side did too.
So, It had been a year, my sisters neck was still locked up to the right as were her knees and feet and hips.
Finally, two weeks ago she gets a call from Med Pro Group rep named Jennifer M. Hart. She sounded like a young woman.
Phone number 312/722-6660 or Cell 312/442-2443 which was apparently near Chicago. She spoke to my sister for five minutes, and that was it. My sister told her to call her doctor for any confirmation that she needed, she was hurt badly.
Up until today, over a year later Nothing until finally she got a letter stating that Jennifer had turned her down.
End of storry... This is how they treat people, Go to St Mary's hospital in Madison if you have to go at all.
