I am elderly and have avoided buying things through my phone. However, I decided I needed to get an app from the Google Play store. However, although I thought I was entering my charge info on Google Play, I somehow got redirected to the Mediakee site. They got my info not Google. When I saw their info flash on$19my screen, I immediately knew something had happened somehow and started checking my charge card regularly for fraudulent charges.
Five days ago, a fraudulent charge for $39.99 from Mediakee appeared on my credit card. I phoned them and asked them to remove the charge stating what happened. Instead they said they would cancel my account. I said I had no account and wanted the charge removed. They started a song and dance telling me to wait while they checked what they could do. First, they would refund $19.99 not the $39.99 charged me. Then after my protest and another wait, they said they would refund the $39.99. I was not born yesterday and when they said they needed 7 days to do the refund, I was skeptical that it would not be forthcoming. The only other time I was victimized, I waited and called repeatedly only to find my credit card dispute time had been exceeded so my money was gone due to being patient. Never again, I am disputing this one but would like to know how they are able to hijack folks from legitimate apps so they get your credit card info instead of the intended site. Beware!
Never heard of this wannabe online bookstore until they charged me $39.99. I had recently bought ebooks for school from amazon and pearson. I suspect it was linked to pearson. My bank helped me with the money part, but I also reported their site to the federal trade commission. I suggest anyone else who was blatantly stolen from do the same.
I have charged a fee of $39.99 to a company called MediaKee from 12-16 to 6-17 with out my knowledge. I disputed this fee on my credit card and the card was closed and is still under investigation. The very next month the charge was under the name of Medialaze for the same charge with my new account number.
This company does the same sales through the internet but could not tell me how they got my new credit card number. I have heard that these companies do not provide what they say they do. Beware. I am sure that when online someplace else they had a small section that if you did not check that they now had your information and just begin to charge your account. I make sure now that I check each statement for any fraudulant activity.
When I clicked on a Christian Bible Studies site, a window opened up asking for me information; stating that I had to enter my debit account information; however, there would be no charge because browsing their library was free. The following day my checking account was charged. Beware.
These people are working off shore to scam people. I have filled a complaint with the BBB of Delaware (the address they gave me was in Delaware). Same thing happened to my husband. They say they will refund but they haven't. My bank is working with me but they should be shut down. NOTE: They have changed their name to UpSpirity but it's the same company.
They took £0.78 which is the equivalent of $1. I don't know how they got my credit card details but will be reporting it and I will try to have these scammers shutdown and ideally prosecuted as the criminals that they are.
Current cc statement listed charges of "$39.99" and a "foreign currency transaction fee" of $1.19. We had no receipt for such a company, or purchase; never heard of mediakee, or done business with a canadian company. It took some time, but we disputed it with the cc company, and called the mediakee ph. # listed on their website.; more time but result was after 1st offering to refund half the amt., we asked if they could do better; put "on hold" while the person checked with a "supervisor". The agreed to credit the entire amt. They said they would send an e-mail confirmation of the credit and gave an e-mail credit confirmation #. The charge was for some "bogus/scam" type membership. We will be watching for the e-mail confirmation #; and continue to be vigilant with cc statements. Our comments support the comments from others below.
They scammed HUNDREDS of dollars from my account. I tried to call them to resolve it, and they refused to work with me - they asked me to give them my credit card number. What a scam!

Mediakee.com regularly debits my bank account "for a purchase" which is unknown to me.
