Meathead Movers Reviews

  • Nov 14, 2018

On or about the end of April, the management of Vine by Vintage Apartments complex located at 401 W. Pine Avenue, Lompoc, CA 93436 notified us that they were remodeling all apartments and we needed to move from our to a temporary Apt in the same complex while the remodeling was occurring. They said they would pay for the movers (MeatHead Movers) located at 3600 South Higuera, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 (866)The-MEAT to move all our furniture to include our 49" LG Television which was purchased on September 2, 2017 for the price of $485.99 with tax on May 2, 2018. It should be noted that the apartment complex scheduled the move on a date I had to take my critical ill mother to dialysis. The apartment complex told us they would ensure everything was taken care of as we had to be moved that day.

Upon our return, we immediately saw that the moving company had broken our 49" LG television because the screen of the television was now cracked in multiple places.

We immediately contacted the Management of Vine Apartments who came right away apologized and took pictures.

It should be clearly noted that this television was in good working order with no cracks prior to the MeatHead Movers moving it. The Management from the Vine Complex contacted the MeatHead movers who also came and took pictures. The MeatHead Movers apologized to us in front of the Vine Complex management for the damage to our television. The landlord and MeatHead Movers told us to submit a claim which is (LC-922077) which I did shortly after (Appx. May 7, 2018) the discovery It was given to the Vine Management who said they would send to the MeatHead Moving Company as I had no fax machine.

I consistently contacted the Management from Vine Apartment Complex because we had not heard anything. Time lapsed because while I was dealing with this I was also dealing with the recent passing of my sister May 21, 2018, and my l mother who passed July 23, 2018. This has placed me in makor depression as we had no television to watch at our low moments of depression

Management from Vine Apartments gave me the information to contact MeatHead Movers. I spoke to several people to include Allison Montes, Quality Assurance Manager who wrote a letter apologizing for the damages that occurred on our move. She had verbally told me they did not get the initial claim and asked us to send it again, which I did on or about July 14, 2018.

After my mother passed I and my sistert, contacted the apartment complex and MeatHead Movers because they had not replaced our television and we still had no television to watch. We spoke to Ms. Montes who asked us to send her pictures of the front an back of the television, which we did.

On or about August 6, 2018, I received a letter dated July 28, 2018, stating MeatHead Movers had completed their investigation and basically said they did not cause the damage. I have several witnesses to include my wife, Juanita F, her brother Raymond S and my sister who saw the television was not broke the day before the MeatHead movers moved the television because they assisted us with packaging items in boxes for the movers to move.

I am sure if the television was broken the movers would have pointed it out to us or the management to avoid liability. We are requesting full payment of $485.99 for the cost of the television that was damaged by MeatHead Movers

During a move, Meathead employees severely damaged a teak library unit with an original cost of $16,000. But, I thought "No, worries, I bought their REPLACEMENT VALUE insurance." It has been 66 days now and I still have no resolution. Meathead rep, will not turn my call over to a supervisor. I have requested numerous times to be provided with the insurance carrier name and have yet to receive it. Below is an abbreviated version of my complaint.

9/26 (Day 1): I contacted Meathead, provided a completed claim form and photos and was referred to their concierge service to help me find a place for repairs. The concierge was a joke. They gave me a list of 3 places. #1 was a company that only did business by email--no physical address or phone number. #2 was a furniture upholsterer that did "refinishing on the side." (Oh sure, I'll hand over my gorgeous upscale library to a guy who specializes in upholstery.) The third company said "we won't do business with Meathead Movers."

I called the rep at Meathead to complain. He said "go get a bid." (At this point I requested an insurance adjuster -- which was declined). I started researching companies qualified to do restoration on high-end furniture. What I found out is that quality companies charge to come to do an estimate (otherwise they'd be wasting their time giving out estimates instead of working.) I called Meathead back to tell them this and the guy said "my supervisor said he needs one bid." So, because they would not pay for a bid, I paid $150 for a restorer to come look at it. The quote was nearly $10,000!

So, after a couple of weeks the rep told me the boss wants 3 bids! After a couple of weeks, I get a call from the concierge service with some companies to contact. Most of them did not have websites or photos of work to look at. Mostly, they were a bunch of handymen who do minor work and not specializing in restoration of fine furniture. I complained to the rep. It took him 10 days but he came up with a few more companies. I finally was able to obtain another estimate without paying them in advance to come out -- the company looked great and their bid was substantially less. I sent Meathead the bid with the caveat that if the damage is worse than detailed on the bid, there may be a revision. I sent that bid to them on 11/15.

12/1 (Day 66 with NO resolution): Two more weeks have passed and I still have no answers. After countless email conversations, telephone calls and the usual canned response "I apologize for the delay ... I realize you are upset ... and blah blah blah," the customer service guy said he doesn't have an answer from his supervisor and will send a follow up email. I plan on filing a small claims action against them.

Please note: This is an abbreviated version that hits the high points only. I have a file that contains 54 email conversations documenting my claim along with numerous phone calls – all of which have resulted in not honoring the claim. It’s my feeling that they are not intending to resolve this issue or want to wear me down until I give up.

This company is bar none, the biggest scam I have ever seen for a moving company.

First of all, they sell you all the bells and whistles when you call in. They send an "estimator" over to your home to review your moving needs and give you an estimation of your costs. This was problem number one! The employee Hunter Baird who came to my home, inaccuarately estimated my move. He spent two hours going over items in my 1300 square foot apartment and selling me the "services" of Meathead Movers. Then he finally gave me an estimate and I told him no way, the price was more than double my last three moves and I had less stuff, and no thanks. Then the sales pitch got heavier and he began insisiting that Meathead Movers were "in a class of their own"........... YOU CAN SAY THAT AGAIN. THEY SUCK!!!!

I finally signed the estimate as he assured me it was only that, and that the actual costs would be a lot less.

..... FUNNY! THEY ENDED UP BEING MORE!

To try to convince the consumer that they are "all that" they start bombarding you with e-mails and calls from packing helpers to concierge teams that "guide you every step of the way through your move".......... TOTAL SALES PITCH!

This company showed up on my move day. They pulled up LATE, in a large black custom painted moving truck and then a team of a few more guys pulled up behind the truck in a decked out black SUV with the same custom paint job on the side, making you think they are upscale and know what they are doing.

I had nothing but trouble with this moving company and there is WAY too much for me to detail all of it but here are some of the highlights.

Took twice as long as any mover I have ever used.

Asked me for directions on how to move items through the doors and hallways

Spent first hour going over paperwork

Broke my custom dining room table top, (by stepping on it) and then asked ME to get three bids on replacing the glass to them.

Broke my stainless steel refridgerator base

Broke my desk

Broke my bed

Ruined my Landlords carpet by not putting anything on it and tracking grease up and down the stairs for 12 hours.

Dented my Landlords stove top and didn't say a word to me about.

Took large chunks of siding, baseboard, walls, door jams, and ceiling out of BOTH my old place and my new place.

Would walk up to an item and if it wasn't on "the list" (like two barstools that weren't itemized) they would actually look at it, pause, and then walk out of the room empty handed.

They left the 4 foot by 10 foot , 1/4 inch broken glass all over my home because "they were not responsible for removing damaged items of customers"...........WAIT??? DIDN'T THEY BREAK IT????? This was a hazard to my kids! I actually had to break the glass pieces with a hammer and take them to a dumster myself in the middle of the night to get rid of them!!!!

They actually sent someone over from "headquarters" to bring booties for the movers to wear when I called in about the tracking of black grease from the alley behind my house all over the stairwell carpet, then the movers wore them outside!!!! SO STUPID!!

I called the supervisor A.J. Cleary within 1 1/2 hours of the move and complained about the carpet, and he actually said, "oh we don't cover stairs to protect our movers from slipping". WHAT ABOUT DAMAGE TO THE CLIENTS PROPERTY???? He said "mam, that's our policy". What????? I had approximately 3 live conversations with this same supervisor within 4 hours of my move.

I wrote a 3 page complaint letter the day after the move to Anthony (AJ) Cleary, (the supposed supervisor) and he never got back to me. Then I copied the same e-mail to AJ's supervisors a week later , Scott Patterson and Chris Thiele, and THEY NEVER GOT BACK TO ME. In fact, nobody bothered to get back in contact with me for 3 months!!!! When the girl called to "follow up on my move" as she said, she actually said, "what was the issue?" I told her I had had it and was not going to pay. I stopped payment on my ATM card and filed a dispute with my bank. The girl I spoke to said due to the circumstances and all the trouble I had with their company, she felt I would NOT be charged. Well apparently that was all BS too. My bank did eventually charge me in full because Meathead said "they moved me, like they contractually agreed to!" They completely mislead my bank and got away with it!!!!

I called Meathead over a week ago and spoke to Melissa who answered the phone. I told her I wanted to speak to the supervisor to get reimbursed for all the damages caused by their negligence. I again, went over the whole issue with her. She took a message for Angela Alan, the GENERAL MANAGER and said that Angela would be getting right back to me. Well its offically been one week and guess what? No call back from this joke of a company.
