MasterWritingJobs (Master Writing Jobs) at https://www.masterwritingjobs.com is an online-only "business" which takes peoples’ money in return for absolutely no goods or services. An ad for this website may pop up while a person searches for jobs or employment online. The ads lead the person to a site which auto-plays a video explanation of the “services” provided by Master Writing Jobs (MWJ). MWJ does not claim that they will become the members' employers, nor do they guarantee any specific jobs or amounts of money. However, these are the only truthful statements in both the video ad and the website body, which otherwise clearly states that for a one-time, $34 membership fee to access their site, they at MWJ would work to find personalized, free-lance writing jobs for internet sites that each member could do. The narration in the video uses language like: members will have access to a "private and secure user area,” with access to "simple writing jobs" that they “compile just for you,” and, “You must complete every writing task assigned to you,” as well as recapping that they provide “fresh writing jobs, delivered right to your dashboard” and have “hundreds of jobs, just for you.” The narration also states that there is an “ironclad money-back guarantee” if a member is not 100% satisfied with the service. This language is also written in two places below the video in the body of the website, and claims a 60-day, no hassle, no questions asked, money back guarantee after a member contacts the support department.
The MWJ site is a scam because all of the above quoted statements turned out to be completely false. I signed up to be a member and gain access to their site/services, and then found there was no personalization for my dashboard; there is no way to make a writer's profile. There is certainly no human behind the site finding appropriate online writing jobs and delivering them to members. The only thing members have access to is a generic list of links to other websites, which, at the time, may or may not be looking for free-lance articles. The vast majority of the website links are seeking very specific article topics, which most writers cannot complete unless they have significant training or subject matter experience in those topics. All or almost all website links are open source and can be found by anyone else on the internet, without signing up for the MWJ access. Therefore, MWJ is charging its members for a "service" that is essentially free for non-members who conduct a simple internet search for open writing jobs.
When attempting to cancel my membership and get my $34 returned, I wrote three emails requesting such within the first three days of the 60 day money-back guarantee time. I did not receive any responses or replies to any of the emails I sent to the MWJ support department, despite their video ad clearly stating MWJ has a response time of no more than 24 hours for all questions and requests. I had to go through my credit card company to dispute the charge, and several weeks later, I still hadn’t received any communication from MWJ.
MWJ does not make illegal claims such as guaranteeing employment or jobs. It is not illegal for them to charge money for access to their website. I haven’t see grounds for their website or advertisements to be shut down or removed from the internet. However, their claims of providing services to their members are somewhere between enormously exaggerated and completely false, and their ads prey on people of all backgrounds. Warning should be spread about MWJ so that no more people in the future waste money by signing up for MWJ membership.
