I purchased a special order Mastercraft French Door from Menard's. My husband and I installed the door according to specifications and even added PVC surround on the outside and caulked properly. The door leaked and rotted the bottom of wood framing. Our door is covered by an overhang and does not see much water but it was still coming in through the bottom of the door. We checked every aspect of our install. There is no way water could get behind the siding or anywhere to cause the door to leak. We had 3 separate contractors look at the door. Every one of them said we installed it BETTER than they would have! We discovered that the weatherstripping on the bottom of the door is completely defective. It is a sponge that sucks water from the outside and dumps it inside.
I contacted Menards to report this defect. They took no responsibility for their product and told us to contact the manufacturer, which I did. Upon contacting Midwest Manufacturing I sent their customer service department various photos of the install, weather stripping and rotted wood. I also noted the contractors who had viewed the door. I was told that the leak was due to incorrect installation. All I was asking for was $28 to pay for the new stripping for the door and money to replace the rotted wood that THEIR product CAUSED! They would not budge. If they would have provided a remedy I would have been happy but they will always hide behind their "installation excuse" before they admit to a faulty product. The door did have a warranty but since they blamed installation, nothing was covered. BEWARE!
DO NOT BUY THESE EXTERIOR DOORS. You may be thinking you are getting a good deal, but you are far better off paying a bit more money for a better product and far better customer service.
