My name is John Annan-Forson and I am the Founder & CEO of RARE RECORDS, a subsidiary of RARE INCORPORATED. On October 23rd 2017, my assistant was contacted by Mario Figueroa who introduced himself as the personal assistant for DJ Kush. His reason for reaching out to me personally at the time was to give my recording artist PAUL DOUGLAS an opportunity to showcase his craft at a King Of The West event/show featuring Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and Cypress Hill at the Microsoft Center on December 1st, 2017.
Upon receiving this information, Mario and I spoke by phone to get a break down of the tier levels, if any, regarding the said show above. I got first hand details from Mario myself and the break down he gave me is as follows: 1. $200 lock-in fee before contractual agreement 2. Official contract will be received upon acknowledgment of funds or confirmation 3. $200 paid before show 4.
Flyer with artist name as headliner emailed 5. General audience tickets mailed. 6. $400 paid during sound check at Microsoft Center 7. VIP/Backstage passes given at sound check.
The above sounded fair so I sent $200 via PayPal on the same day of October 23rd, 2017. Within an hour of sending funds, Mario called to inform me that he’s unable to lock-in my artist because the funds are on hold at his bank. He sent a screenshot to verify the hold and justify why he Couldn’t lock in or secure our spot. He suggested I resend a new transaction to secure the spot and when the hold is released, he’ll PayPal it back to me. I didn’t want the opportunity to pass us by so I sent another $200. PayPal initially flagged the 2nd transaction for $200 citing a duplicate to the same email address so I bypassed it by sending $190 and then $10.
I received confirmation that all 3 transactions were successfully processed and accompanied it with a receipt. Screenshots are attached for verification. Mario upon receiving funds became unreachable, email and text messages went unanswered. He went several days without any feedback whatsoever. Upon surfacing, my team and I got nothing but excuses, flyer with my artist name was never received. Mario and his organizer mentioned something about some kids molestation hence the reason for the lack of correspondence. My heart goes out to the molested individual and I hope they seek and receive legal justice. I haven’t gotten any remedy yet for the $400 loss and Mario hasn’t communicated with me regarding it but not for long. The District Attorney has zero tolerance for fraud and any attempts to defraud individuals so I’m barely getting warmed up. To be continued.....
