Marianne and her husband Ron are charletons. Over our 2-week yoga teacher training--which is an insane and offensive distillation of the concept of becoming a yoga "teacher", they used every opportunity to sell us branded pens or their daughter’s cd. They even claimed that Ron was the inventor of the Tide Pen.
They would ask the group questions like, “obviously no one here was affected by the open-hip session e had today; such b******* that it releases emotions! ---meanwhile several of us were cradling each other, crying. marianne and her husband centered out a gay man in front of the group as to “his intentions” jokingly when being adjusted by marianne. it was horribly out of tune with what the group as watching.
we were given sparkly sticker bindis to wear at our end-of-trip party and the sole woman of indian heritage in our group was humiliated by being called by Ron as his “token indian”.
On the beach one night, while a local Costa Rican family had a bbq, the mother approached us and in spanish, invited us to eat with them. I translated to Ron, who despite the 10+ years of doing this "work" in costa rica, doesn't speak a lick of spanish and balked at the invite. He told me, "these people are changing everything. This is why our costs have gone way up."
We were told not to speak to Marianne and Ron while they were eating.. but some people were allowed. They certainly had their favourites.
One woman who had expressed to me personally that she had previously experienced sexual abuse, was put through a blind-fold experience where she completely crumbled. I asked to go hug her and was told, no. Marianne did not allow a friend to comfort her after having hired photographers to photograph her agony doing yoga asana in a blindfold.
