This all began the day we purchased this 2011 Ford f250 for $42,000 from Cars and Pickups.com located in Carrollton TX on 09/11/2015. We bought the truck Within 15 minutes of leaving the dealership, the check engine light came on. I immediately pulled over and called Scott Davidson at the dealership. He advised me not to worry and to take it to his diesel mechanic Tom Wilkie at Make it Fit Motorsports. The Truck was purchased late on a Friday evening so I had to wait until Monday to contact the shop. Over the weekend, the truck had a steady oil leak and leaked all over my driveway. I again notified Scott and he again told me not to worry and he would have Tom Wilkie take care of it.
When Monday came, 09/14/2015, I called Make It Fit Motorsports Immediately and talked to Mr.Shelby Wilkie, Tom Wilkies son that works in the front office. He told me no problem and to bring it up there right away. I took it up there and left it with him to fix the problems. At that time, I was informed it was the lower Oil Pan that needed to be replaced for the oil leak and a bad O2 Sensor causing the Check engine light. I was informed that Scott from the dealership was taking care of it and they would get to work on my truck. I was notified late Wednesday 09/16/2015 that my truck was ready and I could come pick it up so I did. The very next morning I noticed more oil on my driveway so I immediately text Shelby Wilkie and told him that it was still leaking from up top of the motor. He told me to bring it back up there so I immediately drove up straight to the shop and left it. I asked Mr Wilkie if it was going to be another few days and he said no, it will be ready by the end of the day. Later that day, I was informed that they had to order an unknown part and it wouldn’t be ready. Two days later, I receive a text from Shelby Wilkie that the truck would be ready at the end of the day. This was Friday Sept 18th.
When I picked up my truck on Friday evening Sept 18th, I left Make It Fit Motorsports and a loud pop happened under my hood. Immediately, the truck lost power and would not drive at all. I freaked out and called Make It Fit Motorsports and explained to them what happened. They showed up within 5 minutes and had a plastic tube that attaches to the turbo, mine apparently exploded. Mr Wilkie asked me to come back up to the shop so I did. When I got there, he explained to me the plastic part and they are known to fail and suggested I upgrade the part to a billet aluminum tube so I will never be stranded. I purchased the part for $389.70. I immediately felt as if they had intentionally put a bad part on my truck to get me to purchase this part.
On Tuesday, September 23rd I noticed new spots on my driveway. It was hard to tell due to the amount of spots I already had but there were definitely new spots. I took a picture and sent it to Shelby Wilkie On Wednesday Sept 24th and informed him it was still leaking. He told me I Needed to bring it back in so they can address one problem at a time. I told him that it was still leaking from the same spot. I called the dealership and he again told me to take it back up to Make It Fit Motorsports. I went back up to the shop, and they had one of their mechanics John come out and look at it. He Sprayed underneath with brake cleaner to clean off the oil and told me it was residual oil built up in the bell housing of the transmission and to drive it for a week to see if it works its way out. I drove the truck for a couple more days and the Check Engine Light came on again on Saturday Sept 26th. I drove straight to the shop to see if anyone was there and Mr. Tom Wilkie was. I talked to him and told him that since he was the MASTER Mechanic, I needed him to take a look. Check Engine light was due to another O2 sensor on the exhaust system and he suggested I do an EGR & DPF Delete with exhaust and a Tuner. I didn’t want to spend $1600 extra on a broken truck so I told him to go ahead and replace all o2 sensors which cost me $291.00. He then told me after crawling around under the truck that the oil leak was coming from the Upper Oil Pan. He told me that he would have to get his son Shelby Wilkie to get a price together on it and get With Scott at the dealership. At that point, I was frustrated and called Scott myself and told him what has been happening. He told me he would handle it and talk to Tom or Shelby Wilkie and to just take the truck up there.
On Oct 6th, I text Shelby Wilkie to confirm that he did speak with Scott about the repairs. He informed me that Scott was only willing to pay $1000.00 toward the repair and I would be stuck with the remaining balance. At that time, I didn’t have the time to take the truck in immediately due to the construction jobs I had going on. On Oct 13th, I text Shelby Wilkie and asked how soon he could get me in for the repairs that I needed to get it done and I needed to line up a rental lined up. He told me that he could get to it in the beginning of the next week. I confirmed with him to bring it up on Monday Oct 19th.
I dropped truck off at Make It Fit around Noon on Monday Oct 19th. I explained to them how urgent it was for me to get the truck back. The rental truck was not able to haul the materials I needed for upcoming jobs. At this time, I went ahead and agreed to also have the EGR & DPF Delete installed with the Tuner since they would already have the truck. I text Shelby Wilkie consistently throughout the week requesting an update so I could schedule jobs and know how long I would have to pay for the rental. He Informed me the following Monday October 26th that no work had initiated until Saturday Afternoon on the 24th. I was pretty upset at this point because I was paying $76.00 per day for a truck rental through enterprise.
On Tuesday October 27th I was called by Shelby Wilkie, he informed me that while attempting to remove an injector to replace a seal, they came across a seized bolt. I asked him if the part is or potentially could leak oil and he said yes so I told him to replace the seal. He then called me and told me that the bolt broke off and they need to extract it from the cylinder head which would cost me more money. At this point I had no choice but to tell them to proceed. Which they did and charged me $425.00 to do so.
On Friday October 30th I text Shelby Wilkie and asked for an update and informed him im already at $840.00 on the rental and need to turn it in. He did not respond to me until the following Monday November 2nd and told me they were about to start Test Driving. Later on that afternoon he told me the truck was ready so I picked it up, wrote a check for $5,333.38 and drove straight home. On my way home the transmission would shift extremely hard between 1st and 2nd when upshifting and down shifting. The next morning, I woke up to see new oil spots on my driveway so I text Shelby Wilkie Immediately on Tuesday November 3rd about the oil and the hard shifting. He again pawned it off as Residual oil and for me to bring it back up there. I took it back up there and they had John the mechanic come spray off the oil again and look very thoroughly underneath. While their mechanic looked at the oil leak, Shelby Wilkie and another guy working the front office, not sure of his name, were talking to me about the shifting and tried to sell me on the fact that it was absolutely normal after the turner install. However, this shifting was so severe it felt like I rear ended someone when it would shift. After a while, the mechanic came back out and told me that the Front cover of the block is cracked. This of course is where the new upper oil pan bolts to the block and Make it Fit mechanics had just replaced the upper oil pan and gaskets. . Mr. Wilkie would not accept responsibility and had Shelby Wilkie work up numbers for the repair. I was informed it was a pretty major job and would cost me an additional $1,000 and more time in the shop. At this point the truck had already been in their possession a total of 21 days since Ive purchased the truck and I couldn’t do it. So I was forced to leave with my truck still leaking oil after paying $4333.00 in oil repairs.
On Monday November 30th, I went to start my truck to head to work. There was a loud grinding noise under the hood and suddenly I heard a noise that sounded like a faint tornado siren. I rolled down my window to see if there was a tornado siren going off and realized the noise was coming from my truck. I popped the hood and could hear the grinding noise very loudly So Immediately contacted Shelby Wilkie and explained to him this noise. He wasn’t sure what it would be so he told me to bring the truck up so they could look at it. I also informed him that my Check Engine Light came on as well. When I got there, he and Tom Wilkie both looked and listened to my truck and wasn’t sure what it was but it was coming from the Turbo area. Tom Wilkie plugged his laptop into my truck and told me the Check Engine Light was on because of the tire ratios were off due to the tuner. He told me to leave the truck with them so they could figure it out so I did. 3 days later I asked for an update and that I couldn’t be down this long without knowing whats going on again reminding them the truck is my work truck. Shelby told me that they couldn’t get the check engine light to clear that they would have to remove my tuner, then clear the code, then reinstall the tuner but needed a few hours to do so. As far as the noise, he told me that he was absolutely certain the Turbo Was toast and if I didn’t spend $6,000 on a new turbo asap it would “Grenade” and destroy my intercooler as well. He told me that they would need more time with the truck to pull everything off to confirm but told me that for sure I need a new turbo.
At this point I was very frustrated that they had my truck for 3 days and didn’t do anything but listen to it and plug it into the lap top for the codes. I told him to hold off on doing anything that I may need to consult with an attorney as well as get a second opinion on the turbo. I felt that they were treating me as an open pocket book and weren’t truly addressing my issues.
I then took my truck up to NTX Diesels in Lewisville Tx. I spoke with Nancy Matter at the front office and she had their mechanic JEREMY look at my truck very thoroughly to see if he could tell what the whining noise was coming from the truck and the hard shifting. He plugged in a diagnostic computer to test the turbo and was baffled by the sound. Told me he had never heard a 6.7 diesel make a sound like this. Being that I work from my truck, I decided to go ahead and leave with my truck. When I started the truck back up, the whining noise was extremely loud and different than before. I attempted to put the truck into drive but it wouldn’t even move. I left the truck at NTX and told Nancy that I needed them to just find out whats wrong and fix it, I cant afford anymore down time.
A few days later, I received a call from Nancy with bad news. The Turbo had been destroyed. She text me pictures of a bolt that had been sucked up into the turbo. Her Mechanic Jeremy was able to trace down where the bolt was missing from. The bolt was to secure the outside of the air intake box in the engine bay to prevent it from moving around. When the mechanics at make it fit motorsports removed the air intake, they dropped a bolt inside and it was sucked into the turbo. Nancy then continues to tell me the damage, another $3800.00 for a new factory turbo. I was extremely upset but was on Christmas vacation with my family so I instructed Nancy to do the repair and I would handle it with Make It Fit Motorsports when I returned.
As soon as I picked up my truck, I went to Make it Fit Motorsports to meet with Tom Wilkie. When I arrived, I showed him the pictures of the Turbo and explained to him that one of his mechanics had dropped a bolt into my intake and destroyed my turbo. He immediately went on the defense and asked me why I assumed it was something his guys did. I told him that he and his guys had been the ONLY people that had worked on my truck. They were the only ones that had removed the intake box.
Mr. Wilkie then stated the he wanted to inspect the turbo, see printed out pictures, and see the invoice for what I had paid for the repair. I immediately called Nancy at NTX Diesel. She had already sent the turbo back to Ford for the core exchange. Fortunately, she made some calls and was able to stop it from being shipped off and had it released to me. I picked it up from Ford and took it to Mr. Wilkie. Upon his inspection he agreed to reimburse me for the parts but not the labor. He explained that had I allowed him to do the repair, it wouldn’t have cost him $800.00. I agreed and told him that I was fine with reimbursement for parts only. He then asked for the invoice to see what I had paid. As soon as he saw that it was from NTX Diesel, his demeanor changed and he yelled, “ You had your work done there? f**k THAT, Im not paying you a dime”! Stunned by his response, I told him I would just let the courts handle it and left.
I have since, taken my truck to a certified transmission specialist to find out why the transmission is shifting extremely hard. I was informed the transmission is in terrible condition and will need to be rebuilt or replaced. The deciding factor on which is a difference between $3500 and $6500.
So here I am with a $42,000 truck making payments of $850.00 per month, dumping ridiculous amounts of money into for repairs, and Ive only had it for a few months. It has become transparent that we were sold a truck in horrible condition. Ive spent thousands of dollars at Make It Fit Motorsports to fix an oil leak and it still leaks oil heavily. I spent thousands of dollars having to replace a Turbo and intercooler that Make It Fit Motorsports negligence has destroyed. Buying this truck from Cars&pickups.com has cost my family more time and money than anyone should ever have to spend immediately upon buying a truck.
The pics attached show the bolt in the Turbo. You can see how it destroyed the metal instide the impeller. The other pics are the ridiculous spots I have on my driveway after paying for oil leak repairs at Make It Fit Motorsports. We have gotten several fines from our HOA. You can also see, that no matter where I park, I leave oil spots. I am a General Contractor. I work on high end homes in North Dallas. Its pretty embarrassing to show up to a customers house, leave oil spots on their driveway, then have to pay to have it cleaned.
