I noticed my Magellan gps was acting up so I called their customer support ph# which had a recording saying THEY NO LONGER ANSWER PHONE CALLS & said to go to their website. The website asks you to input your unit serial#; which then tells me I have defective software in my unit!
I then contacted them via their customer support email and they responded by saying YES I DID HAVE DEFECTIVE SOFTWARE THAT WAS STILL UNDER THEIR WARRANTY. However the only way they would update my unit's software is to buy an SD card that their patch could then be downloaded to an SD card that then could be downloaded to the GPS unit.
I then responded
1) I don't use or have an SD card
2) My desk top computer does not even have an SD card slot
They responded that is the only way to correct their defective software is to use an SD card.

I tried to update my lifetime free maps On two occasions I spent several hours online trying to accomplish this. After emailing the company five times and the company each time responding with more detailed and confusing instructions, the company finally responded by email that my "lifetime" maps had expired and told me I needed to buy a new gps in order to get the updates.
Magellan was a very reputable company for almost 20 years for me... However now, when you try to get your free map update, they put you in a phone link to have someone call you back... These supposed technicians take over your computer "pretending to install the necessary software to install the update3, but a bunch of red lines of machine language comes up and they tell you that there is a problem with your operating system Mine is windows 7)...
They then tell you that there wiu8ll be a 1 time charge of $99 to clean out your operating system... I am an a+ certified computer technician,That's my business) i keep my windows up to date and clean as a whistle on almost a daily basis, and i could tell right away what a scam they were running... Stat away from them, just google "comkplaints and reviews for magellan gps and you will see "multiple upon multip-le time that this company is nothing but a scam... Long time users and new users... Besides google search... You can go to yscam.com. And see this for yourself. I will never use a magellan product again in my life, and highly suggest that you heed my advice
No support, personnel were unprepared, can't make unit work, won't resolve issue and buy the junk back. They are in capable of the simplest requests, took three phone calls in an hour to get the VP OFF my computers. Have thus far refused to have a Supervisor contact me.
On April 12, 2017, I purchased a new Magellan RoadMate 5330T-LM 5 witha 1 yr warranty on the amazon.com website. It was registered on the Magellan website as soon as I received it, on Apriul 20, 2017 (Serial# 0892100102636).
When I atttempted to use it on August 30, 2017, the screen froze after powering up, and it was completely unusable, so I used the website to ask for a refund or at least a prepaid RA label so I could return it for repair. In response Case# 500904 was opened on Aug 30, and on Aug 31 I received an email which ignored my request and instead asked me to supply various infoirmation, which should not have been needed since the product was already registered.
I was also asked to try various troubleshooting proicedures. I supplied all the requested information and performed all the troubleshooting, none of which fixed the problem. I again asked for a refund or a return label, andf that is what I then expected.
Instead, I got another email asking me to take a picture of the screen, which I could not do since I do not have a camera. It also told me to go to the website and check out the FAQs. I replied that since they were refusing to honor the warranty, I would be filing complaints with the proper authorities.
Since Magellan is owned by Mitac Digital Corporation, I sent them a letter addressed to President since I was unable to find the names of any U.S. management on the web.
I have gone through 3 generations of Magellan GPS because I like their address book, and they work for a while and then have various problems. This will be last attempt at dealing with Magellan, unless they replace or repair it.
On 7/26/2015 I contacted Magellan for tech support for my Magellan GPS 4350. I was advised to update the software and that there was no battery replacement available. Was informed of their Customer Loyalty Program, where a unit can be purchased through an exchange program.
Thetwo web pages for software update come up with “Found not found”. Was able to send an email to Technical Support of this problem, automatic email reponse gave Support Case # 253629. Then I ordered a battery for the unit from another website.
Two days later, I received a response by email stating to “try” to download updates and again informed of the Customer Loyalty Program. On 8/11/2015 attempted to retrieve updates again, the web page produced “File not found” - support.magellangps.com/support/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=viewdownload&downloaditemid=33
I sent a reply email on 8/11/2015 informing Technical Support the unavailability of the updates. This is 8/16/2015 with no response from Technical Support.
