This happened to be one of my absolute worst rental experiences. The management team that handled 115 42nd street in Union City NJ is extremely incompetent. I should've known that I'd be fighting an uphill battle when I requested screens for each of my windows in the apartment, and nothing ever happened. Sandra from mgmt told me that someone would assist me with that, but I never heard back regarding the screens again.
I also had maintenance issues (particularly a leaking kitchen sink), I called mgmt, and then got a phone call from Sandra at mgmt informing me that someone would be there the next day. I took time off from work -- No one came. I then called mgmt again to get an update, and I subsequently received a TEXT MESSAGE from Sandra at around 1245a (several hours later - during the night as I slept) that someone would come to fix the leak and asked if i'd be there. Highly unprofessional, to say the least, and I wasn't able to make arrangements to be away from work at the last minute.
I was also having packages stolen from the lobby of the building. I filed a police report with the Union City Police department. A detective called me to see if he can get the phone number for management so that he can access the video recording of the lobby. I gave him the email and phone number for [email protected]. The detective called me after a couple of weeks to tell me that no one at madison hill properities returned his call.
Fastforward a few weeks, I was not getting much sleep or rest in my apartment because there was a family living above me with children and pets, and with the floors being paper thin, you can hear everything. I am not at all sensitive to noise, but It was just that bad. I informed management about the situation via email - they informed me that they'd send a notice to that family about the noise. The issued continued, and I was sending management an email about every couple of weeks asking for an update regarding the noise above me - Anna from mgmt wrote back that they'd take legal action -- I never saw any improvement.
I sent several emails, sometimes mgmt would reply, other times they would not. I lived for a year in the apartment with disturbing noises, and no word from mgmt. In fact, in my last two months of living there, mgmt sent me a noise disturbance notice - and I lived alone, and most nights I slept in manhattan!
I finally reached the end of my lease term - anxious to move out and receive my security deposit. I was asked, via email by someone who works in the office, what my mailing address was to receive the check. I provided the exact mailing address, but unfortunately, the individual who mailed the address did NOT use the exact mailing address that I provided - and thus, I did not receive the initial check that they sent, and It took longer for me to receive my security deposit.
I do regret spending my time renting a Madison Hill Properities unit. I do believe that they should adopt a better understanding of client service, and do better to be responsive.
