I just had my car inspected at which time the lights and wipers were checked and found working. Then my wipers just stopped working. They repaired my wipers first by changing the motor, and then when that didn't work, they changed the wiper speed control on the turn signal stalk, which also includes washer, and high and low beam switch. I was told i was getting a fair almost wholesale price.
On the way home I noticed in the reflection off the tailgate of a black SUV that my low beams weren't lit, even though they were turned on. I imediately headed back to the shop where I was told they had nothing to do with the low beams. When I was getting back in the car I noticed the chimes were ringing just because the door was open. Normally that means keys are in the car or headlights are on. Neither the keys were in the car nor the headlights on. It was closing time there so I just went home. I called the auto parts store and was shocked to finf their $95 switch was being retailed for $53, so wholesale was more like maybe $40; less than half what I was charged. Same for the wiper motor!
First thing when they reopened the next week i was back at the shop. I just want my lights working since they broke them. The shop manager, the service writer "junior", and the mechanic all ganged up on me and i was told to take the car to the dealer! Junior thought that the car now needs a $300 computer module that they had nothing to do with. I got news; that turn signal stalk controls the high and low beams. Maybe since the battery was not disconected during the repair (I watched) they burned it out. Maybe I think, they could have put in a wrong part that fits but does not have the right wiring for the year? What ever the reason they would not even look at the car. This dispite how they went on and on, unasked, about their one year warranty on their repairs. Now I am stuck for the damage, when this sort of thing should be covered!
Well, bottom line I look to be out $150 if it was the wrong part, or as much as $500 if it is that module. I do not enjoy practically being called a liar as if I was the one running the scam. My dang lights were working perfect as evidenced not only by my word, but by the new inspection. I doubt if there was 100 miles on the car since it passed Pennsylvania state inspection! Certainly the chime was working okay too. Now the chime seems to think the headlights are on.
