Lumber Liquidators Inc. Reviews

  • Jul 28, 2020

I was hired into HR which was a big mistake for both me and Lumber Liquidators.

I started off in Benefits which I totally failed at so they moved me into Recruitment and I did even worse there. Their giant mistake was then shoe horning me into Training Director and I was so totally unqualified for that. The entire training department quit.

My complaint is that Lumber Liquidators has a history of promoting unqualified people into important positions and it makes those pushed into those positions to have mental breakdowns from the pressure. And it is not my fault that the stock is in the toilet even before covid 19. Yet I got blamed for that too.

The Training Dept is a joke!

No wonder people are so pissed at Lumber Liquidators.

They had a great Training Dept until an a-hole vice president (Jay Keith) put a complete fool (Rachel Becke) in charge of Training.

Rachel knows nothing about Training and nothing about flooring. With an idiot like Rachel in charge, the people who work in the stores never get any real product training.

Now to put this in perspective, Rachel already flunked out of 2 positions in HR (recruiting and benefits).

So instead of showing her the door, the compound the mess by giving her the director of Training job.

And of course she screwed that job up too. And stockholders wonder why the LL stock went from $114 a share to $12 a share!

So, please go to the stockholder's meeting and demand that this 3-time loser be replaced by a real Training Director.

I waste my time going into 2 of their stores only to discover that employees have no formal product training. I ended up buying and installiing the wrong flooriing for my basement.

When I did a little investigating I found out that the entire Training Department quit because a complete fool (Rachel Becke) was put in the director position with absolutely no training experience and no product experience. And here is the kicker, when everyone who knew anything about training quit, they decided that they did not need a training dept.

I discovered someone in the HR dept who hated Rachel Becke and she told me that Lumber Liquidators is possibly in serious violation of the law and could not stand an audit. Sounds like formalgahide all over again?

A billion dollar a year company and no Training Dept. I had to tear out the installed flooring and went to home depot for some good advice and the right flooring. I will not be ripped off by Lumber Liquidators again because I will never go there again.

I purchased about 3000 sq. ft of a tile. Later I needed about 200 more to finish a huge job. They said about 2 weeks but after about 3 weeks when I called now they say another month. This will hold up a 2 million dollar home from being completed. They made it very clear they didn't care about the problem, and weren't really interested in either hearing it or assisting with it. I tried the store manager, the corporate office and even tried to get a supervisor at coprporate but was told they are too busyto talk. I could give them my info and it would be e-mailed to the supervisor?

There are two issues:

1) After the floor was installed we noticed a good number of holes in the wood. we were told in the Stroudsburg, PA store that the "Natural" wood would have knots but they would be flat without any holes' These ARE flat, but have actual holes that you can feel with your hand and put a pin or larger object in. There are a lot and would have hoped that the LL (Lumber Liquidators) installer would have seen this and let us know before nailing to the floor or try to use the existing "good" wood more expeditiously.

The warranty was voided out immediately and no one came to the house to look at the holes in the floor.

We have since looked at some of the wood in the boxes which was not used and have noticed that the tongue and grove are not milled to snap together but rather loosely fit.

2) We were never told that American Cherry was a "softwood" we were given the impression that the wood could handle what we had in our dining room. Within a day we had indentations on the floor from moving things back into the room. We did love the look of the floor when it was first put down, but had we known how soft the wood is we would have chosen another type of wood that would have closer matched our needs based on how we use our dining room.

The floor has been down for 5 months and you can see the discoloration when the furniture is moved.

We then decided to watch the video’s on the LL web site and there were a number of discrepancies as to how we should take care of the new floor

Between the LL store and the LL web site. we would have hoped that someone would have double checked with us since this is really soft wood to make sure we were good with this. This could have taken place anytime during this process, pre-sale in the store, to the install at the house before work began on the floor.

Please explain to us how you would like to have the issue(s) reserved:

1) Not sure what needs or can be done. We don't want the large number of wood pieces cut out and glued back as this may affect how the floor lasts. The problem with leaving the holes is the chance for moisture to seep in and eventually rot away what is there. Rather than tearing up the floor, is there a way to fill in these holes and seal them? Can we get the installer to do this?

2) Again, not sure what can be done short of starting over. The floor was irreparably damaged basically in less than a day after install. Needless to say we were upset. I installed hardwood oak floors in the rest of the house myself and thought we could use the new floor as we do the rest of the house. The oak floors have been down over 20 years and they still look great. The finish is still ok (but the indentations in the wood are obvious. We would be up for suggestions for this one.

5-29-16 Left a $100 deposit with Lumber Liquidators (aka - LL) for 2 separate floor samples we took home to compare with our existing wood floor.

5-29-16 Returned both samples and ordered the one that matched our existing wood floor. At no point did LL indicate there could be a color variation. They were only interested in selling me as much product as they possibly could, over $6900.00.

I showed LL a sample of my existing wood floor I wanted to match. They selected the wood on their computer, I have no idea if they ordered the wood I selected, nor do I know the store loaded the right wood the day I picked it up.

Also I find it odd their installers removed all the wood from their boxes and hauled the boxes away the first day they arrived - before any wood was installed .. Could that be because they were trying to hide something??

7-19-16 I called Mizzie at LL, told them the wrong wood was being installed.

I went to the store as well with pieces of LLs wrong wood and they compared it to the wood sample they sold me and agreed it was not the same. The store representative Javier said he would let John the store manager know about the problem, also Sam the regional manager was notified. Of which none ever called me back!

At the start of the claim Michelle was in agreement, they made a huge mistake and she was going to fix it per her 8-2-16 email.

8-2-16 LL representative Michelle sent this email ( I can forward it to you if you need it):

sold me a glue down wood floor which the installer blowing me off for 2 days finally started installing the floor but it was defective as there were wide spacing between the boards so the installers torn it out now they called me that spacing is very common in glue laded floors but why did they not tell in presales or I would of not put the floor in then they rip out the floor that was laid and said I told which is a lie and I have a witness confirming that as when it issue came up from the installer about the issue they said it the gaps could be sealed with putty so I called the company who refused to lower the price due to the substandard job so they ripped out and took the glues wood and they tried to say I told them to do it which is a lie so no floor no kithen

My hubby & i purchased some rather pricey solid hickory wood for our 2nd floor hallway in november 2015. Bad experience from day 1!!

Ll offered to install it for us initially quoting approx. $600 due to small size of project. When we had them come look at scope and provide written estimate, new quote was over $2,000 to install! please note, it took us 4 calls and over a month to get them to come to home for written estimate. Waste of our time all along!) our measurements of 135 sq feet. Were accurate, there was nothing unusual about hallway, just the manager that quoted us $600 "forgot" to mention all the other fees with their installation.

Total bait and switch right from the start!

After wasting enough time trying to work with them, we hired our own professionals to install. Given all the wasted time delays, wood was able to sit in our home "acclimating" for over 2 months. Yet, when installers were able to work on project, they ran into numerous problems with wood not fitting at all, said the milling was 2nd rate cuts at best and found many cuts that were not even close to straight! we tossed out all wood that appeared to be causing problems, and purchased 2 additional boxes to complete project Note, only had to purchase 6 boxes originally...This was a 33% defect rate!) finally completed installation by march 2016.

By early july 2016, we noticed some noises and creaks when walking on floor, even more hours after walking on floor. By the end of july the floor was completely uneven, walking on it was wavy feeling & the noises had gotten almost unbearable. The pops, cracks and downright loud banging noises would occur hours after someone walked in hallway. We could hear the loud pops from our basement 2 floors down. It actually sounded like a row of firecrackers had been lit up. The wood had buckled completely at every single side joint!

Verified installed right, enough gaps left on every outer edge, proper moisture barrier installed, never cleaned with water, no pets or children in home, no water anywhere near or around our house, windows always shuts with a/c on, hallway hardly even walked on...There was nothing that could cause the warping of the wood in our home. Nothing was done incorrectly at installation either...

Reported to lumber liquidators as still under warranty. Got complete run around from the start... After 5 calls, was able to filed claim and told they would come out to see hallway. No one ever came out, but they asked me same questions, had me fill out same questions in a form several times, all geared for looking for something to deny my claim on!! weeks later received written letter on results of their "investigation". Rejected our claim saying poor installation as i had not provided them the humidity ratings of our home before installation. Claimed that the home must still be too humid for this wood. Further went on to say that warpgin and buckling of wood is a natural occurrence of wood that enhances it's beauty!!???

Amanda is a joke.Duanna is a joke.

Writing a note to the Company Founder is a joke. The whole customer service operation is a joke. I would NEVER again buy from Lumber Liquidators. So far over 7 weeks with NO resolution, after being sold product that did not match what I purchased, sending in a carton for testing (for which I STILL haven't been reimbursed) and now, the warranty dept is dragging their feet and not returning calls.

I can only hope more and more people see these complaints and reviews and stay away from this unethical enterprise.I cannot wait to see them crash and burn financially, and all those incompetents looking for a job elsewhere.

They purposely lied about the moisture level in my subfloor to avoid providing the 100 year warranty by Bellawood flooring. I took several steps to alleviate the perceived problem only to discover that they never intended to stand behind there products. I purchased a premium moisture meter that showed that there installer was fabricating there moisture readings to try to get me to agree to void my waranty. They refunded the prepaid installation fee, but refused to make things right

I have been waiting a year to have a hardwood floor. I finally ordered the wood and it took 2 months acclimated in air conditioning and 40% humidity until my very qualified installer put it in. He struggled with it because the wood was broken, the widths were different sizes, almost all the pieces were warped so they had to be nailed from the top, and even one end was a different size than the other end. I have missed work just to have this **** put in. There are so many nails having to be used that he ran out of nails and had to come back.

I am hoping that lumber liquidators will refund all my money and reinstall it and in the meantime I will have to deal with an ugly floor.

We bought expensive floor laminate at lumber liquidators, less than a year later the floor is showing signs of coming apart. we sent pictures and documents to lumber liquidators in order to have the warranty used. they said we needed a humidity test done prior to installation. the salemen never said anything. also. who gets a humidity test before installing a floor. no one. no contractor says it should be done. lumber liquidators does noy stand by its warranty. better to buy at home depot or lowes. cost us a lot of money and grief
