Called me stating they were calling for AT&T and that my long distance service could no longer be billed on my AT&T bill. Said the deadline for switching was that day and I must change in order to keep long distance charges billed on my monthly phone bill. I okayed the switch, then started receiving a separate bill from them.
When I called about this they said that AT&T was no longer allowed to bill charges from them. Received my monthly AT&T bill and got charged for switching carriers.
Employees or Agents of this company calls you and identify themselves as an employee of your local phone company and advise you that you are required to make a decision regarding your outbound long distance service. The person calling does sound legit but I did notice they called from a blocked number.
Part of the scam to make it look more official and they transfer to another employee/agent who represents themselves to be with a company that verifies that you do indeed want to switch to LDCB. You are instructed to answer yes to all questions to speed through the 'approval' process. The last question asks if you are ok to be charged 15 cents a minute for all outbound calls in the US an Canada.
LDCB called representing themselves as CenturyLink, our local and long distance provider. They said that CenturyLink would no longer be doing their own billing and that LDCB would be sending us a paper bill. When she said that our guaranteed maximum rate would be 9.9 cents per minute I knew something was up. We currently pay $3.99 for unlimited calling. She said she was going to transfer me over to a verifier, at which point I hung up. They immediately called back and I hung up on them. I called CenturyLink and ordered a PIC Freeze, meaning that no one can change our local or long distance carrier unless I call CenturyLink and verify it with them.
