Lonegoose Bakery has been known for superior, unwashed, "Blue Bird" poppy seeds within the poppy seed supplemental community. Their prices are typically double what other vendors charge, which typically indicates that a product is superior to the rest (typically, not always)
Upon the shortage of poppy seeds this year, 2018, they made the poor decision to "cut" their quality seeds with inferior ones (the type that yields a peppery taste in one's mouth) in a grand scale effort, seemingly, to keep their supply levels up and pockets full. Their scheme did not go unnoticed, however, as it was blatantly obvious to those with poppy seed experience that their product had been diluted with the lowest quality seed possible. From one 5 pound bag of seeds, a wide variety of tastes and appearances were yielded - it was very obvious what they had done. It was a terrible act of dishonesty by Lonegoose Bakery. Rather than supplying their customers with the product that they had paid for or simply inform customers that they are out of stock, they chose to try and deceive them. Other, far more honest, vendors have notified their consumers that they were out of stock during this shortage or made it very clear that they were selling an inferior product until their shipments arrive - they chose to do the right thing. Lonegoose Bakery chose not to do the right thing.
We thought this seed cutting was the worst that Lonegoose Bakery could do, but we were so wrong. Despite their dishonesty, we gave Lonegoose Bakery another chance, in hopes that they would redeem themselves. We ordered a 5 pound bag of "English Poppy Seeds" and paid a slightly less amount than what they typically charge, believing that they were trying to make good for what they had done, to reclaim their customers' trust. Nope. What we received was a 5 pound bag of the shotty seeds - 5 pounds of crap seeds, heavily washed and treated, for twice what other vendors are charging.
Of course, we contacted Lonegoose Bakery with our concerns and even though we already knew that they had cut their product, we were surprised that they didn't attempt to even deny it. We directly accused them of "cutting" their product with an inferior one - if they hadn't done so, surely they would vehemently deny it, but they didn't... They also chose to continue to lie about their service, stating that it was "everywhere" and "all over their website" stating that what they were selling was an inferior product for the time being. We have screenshots to prove that they did not inform their customers about their switch to inferior, washed and treated seeds ...and where is "everywhere" when a company only has one website is one to look to find out that they're selling a poor quality product? We never made mention that all they cared about was money, but the "manager" (let's be real, the only guy who's running this operation) told us that he wouldn't be selling crappy seeds if all he cared about is money. We thinks he doth protest too much ...and really? If he didn't care so much about money, why is he cutting his product with junk seeds in order to make a buck? Dishonesty abound.
Lonegoose Bakery has proven to us that they are not to be trusted. The owner of this internet business refuses to provide a refund despite all our evidence and was notified that honest reviews would be left for others to make thier own informed decisions about shopping at his business. We also have filed a dispute with our bank in a latch ditch effort to reclaim our funds.
Save your money and shop elsewhere. It's a big gamble as to what you're actually going to get from Lonegoose Bakery.
Back in October they did admit that they were out of stock of their “famous” blue bird seeds and were selling a seed of lesser quality for a lesser price. It was listed right on the page and on the bags - labeled as LGB seeds. They were barely adequate...
The regular BB seeds did come back into stock after a while and they were as good as ever...briefly. This was maybe in late December or early Jan.
Then we get into February and now we’re getting BB seeds with the disclaimer of different appearance but quality is still the same. Ehh, not quite. These “different appearance” seeds are not traditional BB seed quality, but they aren’t as bad as the stuff being sold in October.
This is the fate of almost every seed provider. I can imagine it’s difficult to maintain consistent quality. I’ll order small quantities until we can get a clearer picture of what’s going down.
Yep. I agree. They were great when they first started. I stopped buying them from anywhere else and just used these guys, then the quality went down hill MAJOR! I feel like I'm getting seriously ripped off, i went through 3 orders in the last 3 weeks. I only ordered 1 pound bags because I wanted to make sure it was still the superior quality it once was and it wasn't. He put a new sticker on the bag that says appearance may vary, but quality has been tested and verified. Lonegoosebakery.com/quality if this is true and he's not full of shit how come the page refuses to load? Because it's not there. I thought it was just me until I stumbled across this. This really sucks too because idk where to find that good quality now without taking a roll of the dice.
They will send you good quality seeds at first and then while overcharging you already send you low quality seeds and they will do nothing about it. Avoid this company at all costs and spread the word. This company is taking advantage of the poppy seed market, avoid and inform other consumers
I totally agree with the above. I was ordering exclusively from LGB too and they had the audacity to send me two five pound bags (one organic and one not organic). Really?!?! As if I wouldn’t notice??? I am pretty much a vegan and live off a plant-based diet so when I ingest something that is not kosher, I can tell right away. I’m addition, someone on Amazon posted that this person was buying another brand and relabeling it, and selling it at an astronomical price. I’m not sure how this person knew that, or if it’s even true, but something to consider! Thank you for having a platform for people to voice their concerns!
I had the exact same done to me. And as soon as I went to tge owner of the page. He gave me the run around. And 120$ for 5lbs of seeds is highway robbery. And this guy is a scammer. He pays next to nothing for these seeds and then sells them to desperate people who have no other avenue for a huge increase. He is basically preying on people. And when they call him on it. He is a ghost. Or offers you 5percent off on your next order. He is scum and always will be. It is best to file a BBB complaint on him and leace out what you bought. Just speak of what he did too you and BBB will make him make it right. Thats what I did abd he was forced to make it right. This guy needs to taken out of a wpot where he can scam people.
This business owner continues to take peoples money and not provide what was offered. He lies and uses deceit in his marketing and acts as if theyre a small abd family owned business that cares about their customers. This couldnt be farther from the truth. They lie and scam people into buying a bad or even tainted product that could hurt the customer. Whilst claiming that the product is fresh and very clean. And when the consumer complains the owner ignores you. Mind you he over charges for his products. So much so that it is insulting. Then doesnt even send an acceptable product. Then laughs his way to the bank and refuses to honor his customer satisfaction initiative. Leaving the consumer who chose to support this mans small business, now in debt cobsidersbly because they spent alot of money and have a product that is unusable. He has done this if not 100 times to this date and needs to be taken out of a position where he can hurt or take from people. This man needs to be stopped. He is hurting honest people who work hard for their money and dont have means to throw around the amount that his product's cost. The entire staff is a bunch of scammers and onow what theyre doing. And all you have to see this bad side of the owner is to purchase a product and the rest will come naturally as you have to reach out and hope tge owners cares to decide to help for once.
VERY SIMPLE. WHY DOESN'T LGB let us know when the really really good seeds for making poppy seed cakes are n stock. Just post "The Good Seeds are in!" Period! Then watch the orders come rolling in. Thanks.
Owner sent good seeds at first then seeds got weaker and weaker. Hmmm, not just tolerance when you go from 1 cup to 10 cups and don’t get anything but a headache! Offered to refund but won’t send return shipping label for over 300 dollars of seeds. Who takes your money and then sends bad seeds after tricking you with a good batch... LGB.
He has now taken to buying inferior poppy pods - from high thebaine poppies, the only kind you're permitted to purchase here, crushing them up and sprinkling them into the bag, while he sits on the good seeds and saves them for new customers to get them hooked into buying his seeds. Then he substitutes the English seeds for cheap, low quality ones with zero effect. I wrote him an email saying those types of poppy pods were dangerous to ingest, I asked for a refund but no reply. When lookin at the bag it is obvious that plant material does not belong in there, it is very shiny in comparison to the seeds, and its obvious it has been mixed in. He is a thief profiting off of peoples misery. What turd ! I'm thinking of calling the BBB in OK to complain about him.
Fraud alert dont buy from lone goose!! i was a loyal customer of lone goose for quite some time. A frequent purchaser of poppy seeds. One day while going through reddit, i found negative reviews claiming lone goose buys seeds from another company, then repackages them and increases the price before selling them to his "customers" Some would say victims). I was skeptical of these allegations so i continued to buy from lone goose. I have always been curious of the quality of spanish poppy seeds. So one day i went to another companies website and purchased a small bag of spanish poppy seeds. This company was already out of english poppy seeds which was a bummer because they were about $70 cheaper than lone goose. But it was approaching the time of year when vendors are waiting for their new supply shipment to arrive. When i received the spanish poppy seeds they were noticeably different from english poppy seeds. I learned both from my purchase and from others descriptions that spanish poppy seeds have a very distinctive smell Sort of like a spice cabinet smell). I didnt have much luck with the first bag of spanish poppy seeds i tried, so i decided to try again since the price was much more affordable compared to english poppy seeds. When i went to purchase more spanish poppy seeds from the same company i bought them from previously, but to my disappointment the spanish poppy seeds were sold out. Since i wanted some more poppy seeds i purchased a 2 pound bag of english poppy seeds from lone goose. When the 2 pound bag arrived i opened it and to my dismay, found that they were of poor quality and had that distinct smell of a spice cabinet. It is very suspicious to me, that a week after i buy spanish poppy seeds which are not very popular amongst the poppy seed community for the reason i was purchasing them, they are sold out in a week, and then when i purchase a bag of "english" poppy seeds from lone goose, they smell and look like spanish poppy seeds. Its pretty clear lone goose substituted the english poppy seeds for spanish poppy seeds then charged me $52 for a 2 pound bag that they filled with spanish poppy seeds. Thats twice what other comapnies charge. Since there are other people exposing lone goose for switching english poppy seeds for spanish poppy seeds and fraudulently selling them to buyers, obviously this is true. Where there is smoke there is fire. Please do yourselves a favor and think twice before purchasing from lone goose. As for me And i hope lone goose reads my review) they lost what could have been a life long customer.
Seller discovered why people were actually buying the seeds, cue the bait and switch
Once upon a time, glowing reviews could be seen from every corner of the internet, all hailing the definitive poppy seed king. Lone goose bakery's reputation was such that nearly the entire community of poppy enthusiasts used it as their principle vendor. Those days are long gone. Now the company continues to benefit from its waning reputation. At this point its banking almost entirely from past glories. Customers return to find things have changed a bit.
Amazon and other major online stores have forbidden the sale of most seeds, and vendors are dying out one by one. The golden age of poppy pods fell, and now the golden age of seeds has ended as well. Now, LGB stands as a relic of what once was, an artifact of the past. The company has, in a desperate attempt to remain relevant in a dying industry, resorted to skullduggery to manipulate buyers. Plant matter clearly not of the Papaver Somniferum genus is added to the seed bag, in a rather transparent attempt to cast aspersions on any preconceptions of washed seeds.
Its an illusion, a low effort one at that. The seeds are washed, and now join Bobs Red Mill and its ilk. Soon to fade into obsolescence once its reputation is expended and everyone's learned the simple lesson laid out by the Greeks in ages past: buyer beware. To be fair, the FDA has been intimidating vendors into washing their seeds. A young 20 year old man overdosed and died, his family reached out and have been petitioning for a complete ban of seeds. That will never happen, but FDA mandated treatment of the seeds is likely looming. Religious mandates in the Jewish religion demand that food products be Kosher, or untreated. So it remains to be seen whether the right to freely practice ones religion will take precedence in a safety versus liberty predicament.
Perhaps its for the best that they are banned. Perhaps its for the best that they are all washed now. At the very least, it prevents opioid addiction and unfortunate overdoses.
David the owner sells washed seeds for way over priced. He throws plant matter into the seeds to throw us off ! the seeds use to be good now they are nasty & washed
Seeds are awful he throws plant matter inside to make it seem like these seeds are unwashed they aren’t very light wash very over priced owner doesn’t care about anyone
