I had internet service with Localnet for a while and when I now longer needed that service, I called and cancelled the account. That was the end as far as I knew. I paid the remaining balance and was done with them. That was back in September. Now we have received a letter stating that the service was disconnected in November for non-payment and we owe a nice big bill. If not paid in full, there is a threat of legal action. When I called today, they claim they require a written request to cancel. I explained that I wasn't told that on the phone so it's not my fault if they didn't give me that information. The representative said I still need to pay regardless. I will be disputing this fraudulent claim of money owed. I'm also going to tell everyone that has their service to cancel and go with another provider. I believe someone needs to shut them down before they rip off more people.

I ordered dsl internet service from LocalNet on 12/5. I was charged for a modem and the first month of service. On 12/9, I still had not received the modem or confirmation of account activation and called customer service. I was told that my account would likely be activated the next day (12/10) and I would receive the modem on 12/16. On 12/16, I received the modem. However, after following all instructions, was unable to connect to the internet. As the technical support office was unavailable, I had to wait until 12/19 to access technical support.

After following all instructions for troubleshooting, the agent was unable to assist further. I was told that my claim would be escalated and someone would contact me "soon". I called again on 12/20 as no one had contacted me. On 12/22 I had still received no response. I called customer service to cancel my account and request a refund. I was told that I would need to put my cancelation in writing and that my money for the modem could not be refunded.

My internet speed has been getting slower and slower, Local Net charges us when we ask for help. whether we get our problem solved by then or not. When I first signed up my speed on the internet stayed pretty constant at 52 k to 56 k, then 50 k to 52 k, 45 k, 40 k. There have been times when I connect at 9 k, 19 k and 24 k. 4 years later the best I can get from my connection is 45 k at best. I would be ok if I were able to get 50 to 52 K. Right now my speed is 40 kps.

According to the tech that charged me for asking, says its my phone line connecting to my modem. Nothing has been changed on the phone line, its still the same 56 k modem. Makes me wonder if they don't deliberately slow down internet connection speeds to sell you their Express dial up which all it does is remove some of your web page graphics to make it look like their speeding up your web surfing. I think it's time for me to start looking around for a better internet provider.
