We replaced 14-year-old kitchen appliances in late 2016. The first LG dishwasher that we bought failed in less than a year. The extended warranty company sent 4 technicians out over a 2-month time and none of them could repair the dishwasher. We fought for 40+ days to get our money refunded so that we could replace our dishwasher and LG's extended warranty company put us through literal hell, threatened us, yelled at us and argued with us and did everything they could to get out of refunding our money.
Then we started having issues with the new French door fridge, charcoal color, peeling. The two doors and two drawers were peeling like a bad sunburn. Once again, we had a lot of trouble getting the doors replaced but at least it got done sooner than the first dishwasher.
Now the replacement dishwasher that is less than three years old has a rack that has rusted through and the only thing holding that section of coated metal bar together is the plastic coating.
The 14 year old dishwasher that was replaced only cost $99, the original dishwasher the builder had installed. The racks were still in good condition…on a $99 dishwasher. Our current LG dishwasher was just under $1,000 and in less than three years the rack is rusting through.
I called the extended warranty company and after being put on hold several times by a woman by the name of Lori, who sounded like she had just woke up and didn't sound like she gave a rat's rear end about anything, told me that racks are not covered under our $100 warranty.
They didn't give any information when we purchased the extended warranty that explains what is covered under the contract. The renewal form that we received does have the details on the back but the print is too tiny and light to read.
Due to all of the horrific experiences that we have had with LG, we have been seriously kicking ourselves for not going with GE. We have a 15+ year old GE washer and dryer set and have never ever had service issues.
We've had nothing but service issues with LG, including the apparent fact that their appliances are super low quality. A rack and $1000 dishwasher should not be rusting out and since it is an integral part of a dishwasher, the extended warranty should cover it.
LG's 3rd-party extended warranty company has been trying to get me to renew for the past 2-3 months. I'm glad we did not renew now that this has happened. When this dishwasher dies, we will be replacing it with a GE dishwasher.
