When a business is large and expects revenue from patrons, it is expected that employees park in designated lots. Lewis Gale as a medical facility, I believe to be equal if not better that the other Hospital in the area. My problem is employees parking in areas that should be reserved for patients and visitors. This is not a new problem , but the disreguard for accessability to a parking spot ESPECIALLY for Handicapped and Oncology patients is criminal.
Lewis Gale offeres free Valet parking but waiting 20+ minutes to be able to leave your car to be parked is not acceptable. It's not the Fault of Lewis Gale, that people dont want to be running in all kinds of weather to park and retreive cars all days, but when handicapped it is often the only option.
When I was in need to Oncology services (often monthly and sometimes daily) there were normally ample parking spots set aside for us if not at the front, there were some in the back . NOW all of those spots in the back of the hospital have been given to Physicians.
Just as disturbing if not more so, the handicapped spots in the back of the hospital, would be taken by employees as would at least 4 spots in front of the hospital. I know this because I saw them always in the same spots . Some employees also parked in Oncology and Official Lewis -Gale trucks would occupy the oncology spots.
I am not Saying handicapped employees should not have access to parking, but WHY do they have to occupy a large percentage of the few spots Lewis Gale has ?
Lewis Gale says they are starting to tow/ticket visitors and patients who park in Oncology spots unless they display a special parking pass. That's great, but how about making every employee have a sticker or signage that MUST be displayed and if they park outside of their assigned parking THEY have to pay a fine or be towed.
Lewis-Gale needs to either build a parking garage for it's employees and make sure there are ample spots for the handicapped employees. That way, more spots will be available for those comming to this facility.
At the beginning of the summer I was having trouble with depression and suicidal ideation. I lost my wife three years ago and was having trouble dealing with day to day problems. I was under another doctors care at this time but he was located out of state. I was on medications and antidepressants under his care. I was admitted to the hospital in Roanoke during the early morning hours on Sunday. When arriving I was did the intake with the RN on that shift and was assigned a doctor, did the blood work and talked to her about hour. I also have a number of other health issues mainly my lungs. I use oxygen at night while sleeping and use rescue inhalers and a few discus to help during the day. I recieved oxygen that night when I went to bed no problem. The next two nights they never even brought the machine in. I was never given a rescue inhaler to carry or my discus. On Tuesday they had me talk to a P.A. of the doctor. This may have been 5 minutes at the most. They also had cut my antidepressant down from 200mg a day to 150 mg a day. 200mg's is the most you can take of the particular drug I was on. Finally on Thursday I got to see my physcritist for the first time. The only reason I saw him then is because I was asking to be released. He told me at this time he was going to keep me on 150mg of the drug I was taking and he would write rhe prescription for it. I at this point ask why he had decreased my medication. I told him my doctor at home had me taking 200mg why didn't he? I also ask why I hadn't been on oxygen at night. His response was I will look into it. The same response for all the medication I wasn't recieving. I will look into it At this point I ask him to be released. Once my doctor left I ask the nurse while they were doing my discharge if I may speak to someone in billing to try and find out about their indegent programs or assistance programs. I never saw anyone. After being back home for a couple weeks I decided to file a complaint about the care I had recieved. Talked to a young lady who was very nice and helpful. She took my statement, gave me her phone number and told me that I would be hearing back from them. She told me even if they didn't take any action againts the doctor I would hear something back. I called back the first of October. This young lady said she would find out what is going on and call me back. At the end of October I called again and was told I would be called back. Now we are almost in December and I still haven't heard anything. Now the bills are in and they want the money. They still haven't let me talk to anyone in billing yet. If you ever have to file a complaint it is very difficult. And dang near impossible to do online where you have written documents to show you did. They want it this way. I will never go back to them again. It's a totally terrible system..
