I hired Mr. Lewis to re-paint one of my apartments in a multi-unit building. We verbally discussed the needs of the project prior to him giving an estimate in which I told him specifically the walls would need at least two coats of paint, but the ceiling could get by with one coat. The trim color was antique white and the walls were white. James did the trim first and painted onto the walls surrounding the trim, then went back and sprayed the white paint over the walls which didn't evenly coat the walls and you could tell where the overlapping antique white had been. When asked about the quality of his work, he blamed the brand of paint. I told him it looked as though he had only done one coat of pain and he said that it was only one coat and if a second coat were added, the cost would be $250 above the estimate. I was very disgusted with this as I have hired painters in the past that would not do any less than two coats on any paint job regardless of color or age of old paint. I did not agree to pay him the extra money. I just told him to do the job as outlined in the original estimate. James eventually finished the job more than two weeks past original completion time (he originally said it would be a week "tops"). He and his crew weren't consistently on the property working and rarely communicated their job progress. I had to guess when they were done as they hadn't shown in a few days. James gave attitude when confronted about the quality of his painting job. The man lacked thoroughness and eye for detail and attempted to add on money to the bill at every turn. I paid him the amount of the original estimate and refused to pay any additional fees that he tried to add. My advice to anyone reading about his company is to look elsewhere because he is a crook and a poor excuse for a painter.
