Amazon and on-line book buyers need to know that owlsbooks, hippo books, International Books, and Pro Quo are all the same company -- and they're all dishonest. Under the name of hippo books, the company had an alert filed against them by the Better Business Bureau, with 43 complaints in the last 3 years. 15 of those complaints were filed in the last 12 months.
Dishonest advertising, books ordered and paid for but not delivered, and no response from the company -- not a reliable group of people. They sell through Amazon, too, in their different incarnations, and there are complaints throughout the Amazon feedback listings. In my case, it was book after book that was over-described -- "good" and "like-new" that were actually "poor," and then I noticed the addresses were the same: a post office box in Toledo, Ohio. Surprise!
They also have the shiny new Website, LetTheStoriesLiveOn.com, and what do you want to bet that they continue their shystering ways with that one? No good company is going to pop up name after name after name, like toadstools after rain. Just the ones who have to cover their tracks. "Now, I'm not going to buy from hippo again -- but here's a company called International Books, I'll buy from them."
No. They're the same company. Be aware! And beware.
Recently I ordered two books from Alibris (GREAT COMPANY).One was to be sent from Owls Books and the other from Hippo Books. I was surprised when both books arrived in the same package ( Now I know why) Anyway they were both described as "good" but I would have described as "like new" The books arrived in a timely fashion for the price quoted by Alibris
I ordered, hymn stories books through Alibris [great service!] One book was expected from Owls Books and the other from Hippo Books I was surprised to receive two books in one package. Now I know why- same company. The books were both like new,
