I contacted this company in the beginning of Oct for a move on 10-19-04 from an apartment to a mobile home, located in same city and only approx 15 min drive. This was to be a 3 bedroom no appliances move. I was sent an email confirming the move using 3 men w/double time drive.
The 3 men arrived approx 8:45AM on 10-29-04, I noticed the time as I looked at my cell phone at the time. I said to them when they pulled up "I don't think you broght a truck large enough". I was informed "I think we did".
I was watching them move the items and noticed that the 2nd bedroom hadn't been touched. I told the driver that there were items in the 2nd bedroom that hadn't been touched. He said to me "I didn't know that there was another bedroom". I told him that I had informed the office of 3 bedroom & no appliances. I then went in the dinning room and sat on the floor. The driver said that they were almost finished that why don't I go ahead and go over to the new place that they would be there in a few minutes. I was very tired (I have fibromyalgia + Macular dengeneration)and thought I could trust them. This was approx 12noon.
Since I do not drive, visual disability, I walked up to the main office and asked if they would call me a cab. At 1PM I was still waiting on the cab when the moving truck came through the gates. I spoke with them a couple of minutes and they left. I called another cab company and waited. About 1:45PM the ladies in the office noticed that I was still waiting on the cab. They offered to take me to my new home. I arrive there about 2PM. No moving van in sight.
About 2:30PM they showed up and started the unpacking. After they unloaded the load I was informed that they would have to go back for a 2nd load as the truck wasn't large enough. I verbalized my unhappiness with this, but, had no choice.
When they finished unpacking the 2nd load, the driver gave me the papers to sign. I looked for my magnifying glass to read the things that I was signing but couldn't find it. I informed the driver that he needed to read to me what I was signing. What he read to me I believe was correct.
After I found my magnigying glass, a week later. I notice that they had charged me 11 1/2hrs @ $89/hr, a $200 material fee and whatever a C/C of $50 was. I also accessed my bank via online and found that they had charged my checking account twice for the amount of $1023.50
I contacted the moving company to report this over charge but was informed that they couldn't do anything about that.
About a week later my daughter asked to pick up the toys that she had me holding for her kids for Christmas. I found one box, an orange container with black lid, but was unable to locate the other brown moving type box. Both my daugther & I looked in every box that had not already been emptied 3 times but were unable to locate the toys. I also hadn't been able to locate my Olympus Digital Camera.
I contact the moving company again with this complaint of missing objects. I was that "Our mover do not open already boxed up and sealed items". The next day I received a call from the moving company that the driver would be sent out to locate the missing items as "he knows what box they were in". I said "amazing, yesterday you didn't open sealed boxes but today you know exactly what box the items were in. This confuses me". The company said that they had already sent me a check for $50 (as of this date I have not received it) and would send with the driver a check for the overcharges on Sunday afternoon.
My daughter & I waited until about 5PM to go to the store to replace the items that were missing. She brought me the a copy of the sales receipt with the items missing highlighted. I replaced all but one of the items including a compariable camera that was missing. A couple of the items were not exact replacement but were comparible as the exact items could not be found.
The moving company, a man named David, contacted me at work and wanted to discuss this issue so "it could all be done and over with". He wanted to send the driver (who by the way didn't show up until 6PM accourding to my neighbor)to locate the items along with a check for $200+ for over charges and wanted me to sign a paper clearing their name of all charges. I told him that I had to replace the Christmas toys and the camera but did not have the total here at work and that I was busy and couldn't discuss this at this moment.
I emailed them today with what was to refunded to me and would only accept a chashiers check or cash at this point. The total over charge on the move itself was $536.00 + replaced toys of 357.44 + tax 27.70 which all + $921.14. I also informed them that I will not accept one penny less and it had to be in the form of a chasiers check or cash as I did not trust them.
I have also notified the BBB, the California Commission of Public Utilities, and the District Attorney's office of San Bernardino.
This company not only took advantage of my visual impairment but stole my property which included toy for my grandchildren for Christmas. They also left the table leaf in the truck (my thoughts only) and broke/stole a lamp, these items I did not include as they can't be replaced.
Oh, this is a good one:Before the movers left the driver said "is there a way that you could help us out? I only make $8/hr and they make only $6/hr" I ignored the question to say the least.
