I contacted legal zoom in December to simply and only file Nevada corporation papers without all the extra bells and whistles they try to sell you. Late February they finally got the corporation papers filled with the State of Nevada, within days I see all these extra charges on my credit card for legal counciling, business licensing , etc, etc etc.

I called in and told them tthis is my third company and have a staff attoreny either refund my money or I will file a lawsuit against your company under the DTPA clause of the California Civil Procedures Code. Amazingly I got my extra 600 back within 7 days. These people are not to be trusted as they are a classic ripoff operation.

LegalZoom is a scam! I paid hundreds of dollars for my DBA, EIN and sellers permit on Sept 29 2020. They allegedly filed on the 6th they've hung up on me since then.

When I confronted them on Twitter they acted like they were just then starting to file my DBA documents and then they filed another one without my affidavit of identity-& which you're supposed to do through a notary service then they found it without an affidavit, [I have no idea what they did with my first set of documents maybe they threw it away until they realized that I was fighting back so they had to start afresh] sent it to a newspaper which you can't do without the affidavit of service which requires my signature and personal appearance at the notary. Then they pretended that they DID get me my DBA but they did not because I got it myself!

And then after I said I didn't get my EIN, they also tried to do the same by sending me a bogus document to sign SS4 to send to the IRS for m8 EIN. I'm sure they did that because they tried to get the ein for me and found out that I already got it-- the IRS gives one EIN per person, just like a social security number. What they do and would have done with that form would have been to then send me another bill for the einsaying the money I paid for the EIN [which is free] is for their services, that this money they're asking for now is for the IRS! NOT TRUE. That form is to request a copy of the ein you already got yourself and then they'll send it to you saying that they got it for you!

I read complaints from two people on their BBB page that they charged $400 for the EIN and then they charged another $900 allegedly from the IRS to get the ein which you can get for yourself for free.

It took me 15 mins or less to file for a DBA. I got my EIN in minutes. Also filed for seller's permit. The total it cost to get your DBA in California is $26 and two dollars for the form if you do it online EIN and Seller's permit are free!

I paid them online to file a DBA for me several months ago. They didn't do anything for months and all my attempts to get someone on the phone to resolve the issue fell on deaf years. All they sent me was standard emails with general BS, but no one ever got back to me. Finally after months of wasting my time they said my buisness was recorded with the county of LA.

When I inquired about why they had not done the publication as was promosed, they beasically gave me more BS and never did anything. I told them to refund my money and I'll let it go, but to no avail. Finally I had to find another company to do the job at lower price and much better service. These guys are a scam!

I had paid for a trademark search with LegalZoom and they did a very very poor job…the trademark was rejected and I called LegalZoom and talked to Joya a manager with LegalZoom and they weren’t willing to make it right…I told Joya that I was going to leave negative feedback on the internet but he didn’t care….we were having a back and forth and he said I interrupted him and he went into a long spiel about how interrupting was disrespectful…I tried to point out that a back and forth was how conversations go…

I let him say his peace but boy to be dressed down by an employee of a company when you are a CEO of a couple companies and i’m 60 years old is quite offensive…I would find a better company to do business with…as it’s one thing to refuse to make things right but quite another to be disrespectful and I was nothing but respectful to him…can you say “power trip”....I hate leaving bad reviews but hey I gave them every opportunity to make it right...used to be a good company...steer clear....or you will lose money like our company did.

I used legal zoom to start a small LLC business. Recently, I was informed by email that I will be renewed for registered agent service at $159.00. I chose to cancel my subscription as I am looking to possibly either dissolve or go with another entitiy to file with the state as required.

When I click on "cancel subscription", I am taken to a page that requires me to provide documentation that I have another registered agent before moving on. I find this to be rather reprehensible that it is any of their business as to how I run my business and to whom I do business with. The payment is also set up for an automatic withdrawl from my bank account and after doing some research, I have found that many unfortunate people have been sent to collections by legal zoom after having slosed their businesses and refused to pay their extortion fees!!

This is how they hold people hostage and extort them out of money:

To appoint a new registered agent, you'll have to follow these steps: Step 1:

Obtain the proper form to change your registered agent from the Secretary of State (or other state filing office). This form is sometimes called a Statement of Change of Registered Office/Agent, Certificate of Change, or Statement of Information.

Step 2:

Complete the information that is needed on the form, and sign where instructed. Your state may also require the signature of the new registered agent that you are appointing.

Step 3:

Submit and file the form as instructed. Some states offer online filing through their business office websites, while others require filing by mail with the appropriate fee.

Step 4:

Save a copy of the filed document or a screenshot of your company's updated information on the state filing office's website.

You can also give us a call at (877) 808-8977 for more information.

Friendly reminder: We can't cancel your service until you've appointed a new registered agent. I do not see how this can be legal to hold someone of a business hostage like this!! All I am asking for is to be immeadiately released and canceled from my subscription!!

In April 2018 I notified Legalzoom that I no longer wanted them as my registered agent. I did this via the phone and via email. In May 2018 they charged me a $399.00 renewal fee. I emailed them and called them and couldn't get any assistance geetting the charge taken off, so I contacted my cc company who investigated my claim and reversed the charge.

In April of this year, LegalZoom sent me an email saying they were charging me AGAIN to be my registered agent. I called them and told them I'd cancelled this a year ago. They said no problem, just notify them in writing that I didn't want it renewed. I emailed Legalzoom, replying to their notification of charges, stating that I didn't want them to be my registered agent and to they were not to charge me. They did anyway.

I called my cc company and disputed the charge again. Initially the cc company was helpful but then LegalZoom told the cc company that they'd notfied me via email about the charge and I hadn't responded telling them not to charge me. Legalzoom also stated I'd not provided them them with proof of anyone else as registered agent. So the cc company sent me a letter finding for Legalzoom, without contacting me back to see if what Legalzoom said was true.

I called the cc company got them to reopen my case.

1. I had provided proof of another registered agent a year ago, so no I didn't send it this year: it was supposed to be cancelled a year ago! And 2. I had responded to Legalzoom's notice of renewal in April 2019 via email on April 16 2019 stating that I didn't want their services and they were NOT to charge a renewal fee. I heard nothing back from them until they charged me.

I also closed the cc account as they should have contacted me before finding for LegalZoom and closing my case.

I requested Legal Zoom services to assist me in setting up a non profit 501(c)3 to pursue my passion formally in Canine Rescue which I had been doing successfully and independently for 3 decades. I understood a one time Fee for this work ($900) and one Annual Fee. That is all I approved. THREE years later I am STILL being charged random "Annual fees" $159, $299, LUDICROUS. What began in good faith has now fallen on very different shoulders. I suffered an unexpected health nightmare, 2 DVTs and 5 Pulmonary Embolisms! The damage to my one lung left me on Oxygen 24/7. I don't have the time nor money to feed their cruel and sneaky shenanigans. I have notified them via phone and in writing 3 times. Today I happened to catch their sneaky withdrawal. It overdrew my account. I was furious at their arrogance so I not only put a stop payment on this $299 fee but former $159 two other times. They picked the wrong Lady at the wrong time to mess with. Oh yes, they did my Non Profit incorrectly. I am now having to hire a REAL LAWYER to do this correctly. Beware! Legalzoom is a Rip-off! They should be ashamed of themselves and please report them EVERY time. I have never given a poor review. This is a first. But $700 is alot of money to steal for services not rendered! Caveat Emptor! Let the Buyer Beware!

I sought out legalzooms assist with just filing the paperwork needed to set up my LLC. After speaking to a customer representative, it was never discussed that I would be signing up for a "registered agent". This was 3 years ago and I was just charged $299.00 without my knowledge. I am terrified to now have to review my statements to see how many other charges there have been without my knowledge. Legalzoom does not discuss with you the hidden charges. They NEVER stated I would be charged an annual fee. I hope this helps someone else from making a big mistake.

They charged me an extra $159.00 a week after I purchased my corp when I called to complain they told me that I signed up for something I never did and why was this billed after they gave me a quote and I paid for it? When I called customer service they kept giving me rebuttals on why it was not refundable that I needed to get something written from the state. I will never use these services again this company is a rip off over charging and hiding "Extra Services" I have no Idea why they have an A+ rating when they have a ton of negative reviews and only a handful of positive ones. BBB how are you rating these companies? Oh and their customer service people are by far the rudest I've ever encountered.

I had made an LLC with Legal Zoom with a one time payment and boy they went to town charging my credit card for more than a year with monthly charges of 29.99, and multiple charges of 320.00, 224.00, 159.00 spanning over a year. This is absolutely absurd and ludicrous. I am in utter shock at this fradulent activity. Still trying to get my money back.

I am not at all happy with the services I received. I filed a DBA "sole proprietar" through legalzoom. They did not assist me with my filing correctly. It took over two months for my filing to go through and they never got back to me and I had to contact the state personally to confirm my filing was complete. I did not need a DBA filed, I needed a different purpose for my filing but they took advantage charging me several times the normal state filing fee. When I later called them to ask questions, they refused to answer saying that I must reach out to a state representative or attorney. They could not recommend anything to me about my business filing. The filing that was made was completely useless and does not protect my company name on a state or federal level. I paid over 100 dollars for a very useless and basic filing with no guidance from legalzoom and the state only charges 10 -35 dollars for the filing at most.

I purchased a Family Trust document with attorney review according to the website and phone call with sales. Well, that's sure not accurate. The one law firm that was offered does not practice in my area and is not autorized by the State Bar to practice Wills and Trusts. When I asked for what I had paid for, the only compensation I got was a simple refund. Their false advertizing is probably going to cost me a lot of additional time and cash. XX doesn't offer attorney review, but at least they are honorable and tell you what you are buying.
