I have cleaned my gutters twice a year dor 22 years, these gutter guards clog up almost after every rain and need to be cleaned multiple times a year. Water runs over the gutters, onto my wood deck, splashing mud onto the building, digging a channel in my driveway and the splashing water gets under my garage doors and into the garage.
Here in Florida, many of us live in tree-covered neighborhoods. Gutter protection is extremely helpful. But leaf filter, when installed FLAT, will not prevent leaves and debris from building up on top of your gutters. You will still have to clean the TOPS of your gutters several times a year - unless you are exposed to fairly strong wind storms. So the product is overpriced, and the sales folks are NEVER honest about the shortcomings of the product. So glad I don't live in an area where it snows - I have read about all the problems with icing over when it snows.
My solution was to go to the Costco website and purchase their wider 5" mesh gutter guards which are ANGLED when you slide them under your shingles and attach them to the front edge of your gutter. This works by causing leaves and most small debris to fall off by gravity or by the wind. Only tiny pieces of debris may stay behind, but those eventually dry up and blow away also. While nothing is 100% perfect, I was VERY happy when I paid $250 instead of $5,000 for the 110 feet of gutter mesh I needed for the back of my home. For the pricing reason alone, LeafFilter is A TOTAL RIPOFF.
I hope this report helps others see that there are other highly effective solutions available out there for those who do not live in snowy parts of the US.
After installation of Leaf Filter gutter protection in Sept. 2015 called in Novemebr 2017 to complain, water running over the gutter guard. They installed a different screen. In January 2020 complained that the gutter was so plugged that the water ran off the sides and rotted the facia board and the chimney frame. Representative came out and viewed the damage.
Said he had a solution and would half to get approval from head office. He took a 10ft length of filter screen with him and I never heard from them again. Complained to BBB in Georgai, they did a report but leaf Filter told them they had contacted me and that the complaint was finalized. BBB took them at their word and closed my complaint without my imput at all. Rotted chimey frame repair cost me over $350.00 and I still do not have leaf Filter back on the 10 ft section beside the chimney. BBB has not been helpful and I still have no screen on part of the gutter. I paid for the screen secyion, and the Leaf Filter over my gutters is not doing any good at all. A waste of money.
I was one of the first installations as Leaf Filter expanded their operations into Southern Alabama. The salesman, Jesse Dillard, was pushy, but I had already decided that I was interested in the product.
Installation was a challenge as management seemed to have little idea or control over the project. They actually called on the day scheduled for installation AFTER the crew was supposed to arrive to inform me that there was an insurance issue and we would have to reschedule!
When the installation finally occurred, the crew was dirty and very disorganized. The one day scheduled turned into two, and when I met them the mornng of the second day, part of the previous days work had fallen off of my house. The crew for the second day was also short-handed and very confused.
A week after installation I noticed several sagging gutters and water overflow during a rain shower. I requested maintenance and called the supervisor. One maintenance guy showed up a few days later, expressed concern of the installation, and made some repairs.
Two weeks later I noticed some other issues such as overflow (again), and what appeared to be alignment problems. The same guy showed up and made some repairs.
About six weeks after installation, I had yet more problems with overflow and some tree debris being stuck on top of the guards. I repeated my calls and Leaf Filter sent a different maintenance guy who removed some of the angle guards, gooped some sealant on the joints, and left a lot of metal debris (cuttings and screws) in my yard.
Now I am six months or so since the initial installation and I still have overflow and debris problems, have to clean my gutters more than before (just in a diffenent way), have water running BEHIND my gutters, and cannot get Leaf Filter to answer the phone or respond to any messages I leave.
Product was installed but gutters were worse after instalation. The water now comes down between the gutters and the house rather than goinginto the gutter. Also, I was told that I would never have to get on the roof to clean debris again.
Not True! I am 81 years old and to have to put up with this is just too much. I complained about a day after instalation. It took weeks for someone to come out. They, of course, said there was no problem.
I found that the sales side was not completely honest with their customers. They price their product over the top and work their way down to a point of sale that is beneficial for the salesman...not the customer. Sales manager cherry picks jobs and cherry picks retention jobs that were not closed. He also has his wife part time cherry picking jobs.
This makes the sales representive go all over the state while he takes local jobs. The installation side is just as badd they get people to purchase insurance and BWC coverage and make promises of pay training in reimbursement. Corporate is aware of their tactics and has chose to do nothing about their on ethical practices on the sale of side and installation installer deception.
Have had this company to my house twice for estimates. '16 then late '17 -- sold us on $15.25 a foot with a 24 hour price guarantee, when time was close he called us and when we didn't feel that was right -- they said $15, then $12 on a managers special, then $10, then $7.50 --- that's when my husband started thinking something didn't seem right.
This agressive company showed up at our house unannounced even. And, when we asked why they would offer this at less than half what we had originally were thinking about and they guy says it only costs them about $3 a foot to make a profit...
$3 a foot -- $3 a foot --- $3 a foot this guy says! so, then my husband and i do the math right in front of him comparing the $1.29 cover you get a home depot --- 3 feet for $1.29 plus tax... --- we told him that we would rather hire a friend to spend an hour or so to help than pay that kind of money.
We had 361 feet. Cost us under $350 toal including supplies from home depot and paying help versus the $5,500 quote we originally received.
