I was in the middle of nowhere in France. Not one but two hard drives go on me and I still needed to get out a project back to Los Angeles.
I contacted Lacie, and unfortunately the cannot ship until the new drives comes in, but I don't have anywhere to transfer it too. I drive an hour to a local town...no lacie, twice the price and no one speaks english. The next day, I drive the another hour...the other way. Same thing, but worse as they didn't have any sizable storage drives.
Ok. Amazon?! Nope. France Amazon is pricey and it's in Euro's and it won't ship back by the time I leave. Fine, I'll pick up a small drive for the project that needs to be shipped and hopefully by the time I get to Paris the footage will still be intact.
Get to Paris...it's double the cost. I figured, I'll be back in a week so waited.
Finally, I pick up a Seagate drive, reasonably priced. Transfer everything over.
Started back with Lacie...decided to call to expedite it. No answer. Sent email. No response. Called back the next day and finally get through. They have a "training exercise" and won't ship until the following monday which happens to be a holiday, I might add. Again, I'm leaving in a week from that location and would have to travel 1.5 hours to come back to pick up the drive that I gave a credit card to ship as the "expedited" route. They claim that this is because of the laws and it's out of our hands. And they felt they were doing me a favor, still!
When I mentioned that this was very frustrating...he laughed. Classy. At this point, we decided to walk away.
Been using them since '07...bought plenty without a problem and when push came to shove...Well, you get the idea.

The perfect storm or bad luck?
