La Via Detox and Treatment Center Reviews

  • Apr 16, 2018

I'm leaving this review as a concerned prior resident that was under the care of LaVia Management and Transformations Counseling. I am also leaving this under an alias as I'd rather not have my name associated with this company. I have not one positive thing to say in regards to this facility, the owner or the staff. The energy and negativity that is so widespread throughout this place is infectious.

There is no positive reinforcement, no recognition of important sobriety dates, no encouragement of any kind. For addicts and people in recovery, positive reinforcement is everything. Instead of being congratulated on landing a successful job, clients are condemned and questioned as to whether or not they have actually gained employment. Everyone is micro-managed, from the staff to the clients. The point and purpose of living in a sober community is so you can get back on your feet, so you can rebuild your life and the normalcy you had prior to addiction taking precedence of your life. Not to push you down, and make you feel in-humane.

My stay lasted close to 6 months. During my time there I did not relapse, or intentionally violate any rules or regulations placed upon me during admission. Unfortunately, the rules and "code of conduct" changed by the day. Most people trying to rebuild their life need stability and structure, I could not find this any where. There were no processes and procedures in place. From clients having to back-date admission paperwork to medication distribution logs, from not being able to smoke outside after curfew (10pm on weekdays and 11pm on weekends) to having to sign in and out any time you leave or return to the premises.

There was no set plan of action and it always felt like a free-for-all. One week we would have cleaning supplies, toilet paper and paper towel provided, the next week it would be locked in the "office". It was constant madness and chaos and for anyone battling this terrible disease not a stable environment whatsoever. When in a sober community, you should feel safe, there should be constant peer support, positive thinking and community meetings to celebrate everyone's milestones in their recovery. The relapse rate in the community was alarmingly high.

Typically in a sober living community, when someone relapses they are given a time frame to pack their things and admit them selves to treatment. Here, their cell phones were taken away and no further repercussions. How is that benefiting someone? Staff was made aware of relapse and sometimes nothing was done about it at all. That would create a domino effect in the community. When people gained the ability in their program to move out of halfway and on with their life, they were labeled "sick" and "unstable".

There was no positive encouragement of meeting their next personal milestone. During my time there I filed a grievance with concerns to be reviewed by upper management as well as the CEO. The response in regards to my concerns is actually baffling. (I will upload this at a later date as I need to remove personal information) It will show you for yourself in black and white, signed by the owner/founder/CEO. Hopefully that will lay to rest all questions one may have.

I also have documentation revoking written and verbal permission of my files and history with both LaVia Management and Transformations, and yet I have a filing dated and signed by the owner Sarah Sacks that included falsified and fabricated information discussing myself and my condition to the prosecuting attorney involved in a court case I was currently battling.

For a person voluntarily addressing this issue in their life, and doing all the steps to maintain sobriety and work tirelessly on their recovery have their character torn down to a prosecuting attorney in a case they are battling stemming from their addiction, is not something someone should wish upon their worst enemy, let alone from a place that supposedly "helps" you in your recovery.
