After interviewing several different companies, Kitchen and Bath came into my home 9/2015 and first handed me their references from previous customers. This was a definite first. And should have been the first red flag. We discussed my desires and I waited for their email quotes. During this time I called the references and everyone said the exact same thing only worded differently. Excellent, would hire them again. It seems not original but assuring. I was told by Tim Wehner that his partner Clark Canada held the GC license. Deposits were made, and the nightmare began. I was told no permits were required, yet the city told me that was incorrect. Below industry standard work began and continued. Everything done was below acceptable and I spoke up each step of the way. Over and over I was told, "that is what a woman would say" or "thats how construction goes". Every part of my job has issues.
Being the entire home would be painted, I took my pets and went next door so that no problems with pets would occur. I came back many times to find different strangers in my home. Again speaking up, and assured I was worried for no reason, I asked these strangers and was told they were hired from labor pools and/or craigs list. Kitchen and bath had no real employees. And as I was stuck in contract, I researched finding no one had any professional licenses what so ever and even in the last few years registered different company names almost annually. I asked many times when would the screw ups be fixed to only be assured of their desire to finish. Still having work to be done, I get notice of identity theft right before Christmas 2015. And the identity used was taken right off a 10 yr old tax return with long ago name changed. I don't have proof of how it happened other than once this all came to light, police, creditor letters, fraud investigators, etc, I looked into my home filing cabinet to find this paperwork in disarray. Obviously Kitchen and Bath plus were FIRED and forbidden to return to my home. Being I spend retirement savings and now my entire most confidentential ID, social security number and date of birth, are in unknown hands forever, I hope what is taken from this is, ask everything first, check licenses and permit requirements, go see any reference jobs, and pray for honesty. Wish I used a credit card instead of writing checks from my hard earned retirement savings.
