I've known Lawrence D. Chappel for over 15 years. Many years ago, he worked as a cook for Chicken A Peel. Some were along the line he became a contractor. I have always known him to be an honest man, until the past few years.... I own several real estate properties and after interviewing Lawrence, he stated thart he does, on time, time end work and that he works and gets no complaints from customers.... Everything he said was a LIE... FYI, I have 7 years of professional architectural working experince. He scammed me for $2,500 and counting....
1) Lost: He would only show up to work for 30 minutes then comeback the next day.... He didnt know what he was doing.
2) Lazy: The project was a typical basic 2-3 week job, but by 3 months into the project he only completed 25% of the work, but demaded 50% of payments, and made excuses everyday.
3) Poor Craftsmanship: Literally, we argued about basic things like, I forced him to use backerboard for the floor tiles, He installed the kitchen cabinets with exposed shems, plus the cabinets were installed slanted at a angle.... He said they were straight. He never putdown Metal transtion strips for ceramic tile... The plumbing install, was all incorrect, he painted walls without taking down all old registers/fixtures/covers etc... We argued about about "Jack Legged" work he thought was good.
4) Not Responsible: He left the main door wide open all night, and lied and he said he didnt do it, but he is the only person with a key. He left several brand new cans of fresh paint open, that couldnt be used again and did care...
5) Crook: He demanded more money but only completed 25% of the work, The he disappeared for a 2 weeks after payment. Then I found out that he has never done a home remodel and is only an outside person, mostly concrete, but he needed my money to stay out of jail...
6) I called an reiable contractor that told me that everything lawrence did, was unbelieavilble unprofessional and that everything needed to be redone, because the new tile was cracking, the kitchen cabinets he just installed were about to fall off the wall, and the plumbing/electrical job was so horribly installed.. everything need to be redone...
7) Lawrence after mutiple professionals told him the same thing decided to skip town, and ran away with out trying to make this right. I found him on the public courts record and his recent mugshot ands i tracked him down. He refuses to return my call, texts or letters.
8) Im not alone, I recently met 5 other people that lawrence recently ripped off this summer too! We all had the same issues, but one lady lawrence ripped her off for $10,000!!!
9) He is bragging about his faith base business and how he teaches children bible study, but why would lawrencve do this???
Lawrence is in the rears of over $30,000 in back child support and is looking at spending 9 months in prison unless he makes payments, but he hasnt made a payment in over 12 months... I believe this is is motivation to become a criminal. Ironically Lawrence teaches a children bible study at a church in North County St. Louis (I will allow that church to stay annyonous), but he can't take care of his own children?
10) I am a god fearing man and have given Lawrence over 20 attempts to make this right, I know i will never get my money back, but maybe he could give me labor on another job, but he refuses to answer my calls or respond to text messages or letters.
11) Ive talked with several contractors, they all say that Lawrences braggs about how much money he makes not completing any jobs and walking away. He tells everyone about how great of a christian he really is and this is his way he gets people , but all women except me... He lies a lot, to the point he cant tell the truth about basic things..
12) I think i will lose more than $3250 when its all completed! I literally had to rip everything out that Lawrence did....
