I had requested a new Forte thru TruCar and decided on Downtown Kia since they had the lowest price available. After being sent an email from the internet sales manager John Navarro I called to reach him and got his assistant Darlene Escobar. I explained what I wanted and they quoted me a price over the phone that matched what was shown thru TruCar. I explained that I would be going to come in the next day to make the purchase.
I even called back the same day to go over details and reconfirm the deal. The next day I went to my Bank to get a Cashier’s check for the confirmed amount and called John Navarro to make sure everything was ready, but he was not in and he advised that I speak with Darlene and she would get someone to help the transact the deal. I specifically said that I am driving to downtown for this deal, are you sure there is nothing tricky that will happen and she assured me everything was fine.
Once I arrived, she would not see me, but had a friendly salesman talk with me and say that the car we agreed upon had 800 miles on it, so it would be a used car. I explained the situation and all of the assurances I was given and he said that he understood and would do a different car that usually costs a bit more for the same price, which I said yes to.
When he brought in a manager named Aris, this person told me I had to pay more. When I explained the situation again, he did not care. When I said I have plenty of documentation to back up what was said by everyone and thru TruCar and that it was not right how I was in a bait and switch scheme, he did not care. When I said I would go back to TruCar to file a complaint he said go ahead.
While in the parking lot, I text John Navarro that they were awful, he asked how come? I replied that he should talk with Aris. I never received any other response from him, so this shows that he was aware of these tactics. When I tried to call Darlene Escobar, she would not answer and did not return my call.
I wasted a lot of time and energy dealing with these unethical people and everyone should be aware of their bait and switch scams. They obviously do not care about any consequences to their unethical behavior and could care less about TruCar.
I am writing to you in hopes that you help resolve an ongoing issue, I have not really received any assistance and have had to explain the problem over and over again…
I was at the Kia in Cerritos about to make a deal – I got the pricing through true car.com I had an offer for my vehicle 2011 Hyundai Elantra from Cerritos $5500.00 they were going to give me a check when the deal was done that night. Mia (internet sales KIA) contacted me and I can get the text messages to prove it. I didn’t want to haggle and I knew what I was supposed to pay because she and I went through everything before I even stepped inside the building.
Mia with Kia offered me $5700.00 for my Hyundai – because she wanted to take the business from Cerritos and my car is in "high demand".
The car I was going in to purchase (Optima) was supposed to be around $25K But ended up being a lease and I was happy with the $328 payment.
We agreed that $1000.00 was suppose to be put towards the down payment and it would come from my vehicle sale to KIA or trade in which ever (not sure if it matters). The payoff on my vehicle that night was a tad over $2740.00
$5700 - sale of my car
-2740 payoff (hyundai)
-1000 down payment (kia)
$1960 is the balance owed to me – that was the agreement, I was told I would leave with that amount several times but originally from Mia in Internet sales (it never happened)
I called and called and things got worse and worse
There was an issue with the total due on the payoff (Hyundai motor finance) – I get that!! I told the finance manager to take that amount out of the monies due to me.. I just want this nightmare to be over as I was counting on that money $1960 for vacation to see my son away in the military. But that didn’t happen, then after a month Your finance mgr tells me to come in that there is an issue with the contract and it needs to be fixed, I was scared to go in. I feel like I have been deceived many times by your company. I have cried and been so stressed out. The finance person the night we did the contract (whom I know was new to financing) because of our conversation and how long it took him to type it out made a mistake by putting $999.00 due cash. I have other paperwork proving that that was not the case and I still have not received any money for my Elantra and furthermore I would not put $2000.00 on a lease. Please help me get this resolved once and for all.
