Kenton Animal Hospital Reviews

  • Jan 16, 2020

DO NOT COME HERE! The WORST thing you can do for your pet is to take them to this joke of a hospital, run by one of the most unpleasant and unethical people I have ever met, Dr. Lindsay Thurwachter.

I made the mistake of transitioning my cat's care to KAH. My cat is overweight, but he is a VERY light eater. His food is measured based on the recommendation of our previous vet. He usually leaves a substantial amount of food in his bowl, and has been this way for YEARS.

Recently though, Lou has been ravenous, eating his food immediately and wailing for more. I thought something could be wrong with his kidneys. THAT is why I made the appointment. I did not say anything about wanting help with weight loss. In fact, a week before his appointment I called the hospital and gave the receptionist a detailed account of what was going on. I wanted Dr. Lindsay to go into the appointment knowing our concerns.

Unfortunately, I had an emergency just hours before Lou's appointment, so I had to send my boyfriend to the vet in my place. When going to the vet Lou is normally afraid but compliant, the exception being dental work when he does need to be sedated. However, this time Lou was agitated and refused to leave his carrier. At that point it would have been appropriate to simply end the visit. We were paying for an EXAM, and I'm not exactly sure how one can be performed on an animal that won't leave the carrier.

Dr. Lindsay talked to my boyfriend about weight loss, regurgitating information from the report she'd obtained from our last vet. Not a single thing she said was new info. She didn't utter a single word to address the issue we came to her with in the first place. I was emailed a document before my boyfriend and cat even came back home, so I looked over it.

It referenced many things, including 12 categories such as what his ears and gums look like and that he doesn't have fleas. I got a separate email with a receipt for $80 and didn't think much of it since the email before that one made it look like an exam was performed. My boyfriend came home and told me Lou never left the carrier.

I was shocked and angry. How could she have made the claims about his health that she did without him leaving the carrier? I get not wanting to work with a hostile cat, but come on. At least give us a choice. Send the cat home rather than tricking us into paying a considerable sum of money for info that was half stolen from another vet's record and half made up entirely.

I called to speak to the manager, who returned my call five days later. She refused to acknowledge anything I said and basically said that the useless information the vet provided to a question we didn't even ask was an "exam." She referenced the document I was emailed as if that was proof Dr. Lindsay actually did perform an exam.

She said Dr. Lindsay was able to get Lou's heart rate and the other things detailed in the document. This never happened. I asked to be provided with a credit for a future visit since no exam was performed. That request was denied. She acted like there was nothing she could do... um, what's your job, exactly? KAH is not a huge corporation like Banfield, where MAYBE I'd believe that managers actually have no agency.

The FACT is that if KAH actually cared about their customers, they'd be more willing to make concessions to build long-term relationships. They won't do this because they don't care. Period. Customer service is simply nonexistent here. I was upset by the end of the call and informed the manager I had an obligation to other consumers to warn them about this place and about my experience there. She told me to go ahead.

I wrote a review about my experience. Shortly after that Dr. Lindsay left my boyfriend a VM trying to manipulate him into getting me to take my review down on the grounds that they'd had a "nice conversation"--I was appalled. I'm not an animal in a cage and my boyfriend is not my keeper. The sheer audacity Dr. Lindsay exhibited was disgusting.

If you want to make a bad review go away, how about you try to make things right rather than resorting to manipulation? I called and left a message letting her know that if she'd like to have a conversation about my review, she can contact me directly. Like a coward she resorted to THREATENING me via email, telling me she'll sue me for slander and that I'm not allowed on the premises (though I've never been nor have I stated any desire).

After posting my review on FB I heard from other pet owners who'd had negative experiences and who'd also been silenced by Dr. Lindsay. It seems Dr. Lindsay makes a habit of threatening those who write bad reviews with law suits. It's not slander if what you're saying is true. One of my biggest regrets as a consumer is trusting Dr. Lindsay and KAH with my cat's care. I am happy to provide proof of my interactions with Dr. Lindsay including the email and VM referenced here.
